New Saiga

Gents,

Picked up a 7.62x39 saiga at the fun show this weekend, it was already converted. It does have your run of the mill plastic ak stock. I'm wanting to put a folder, maybe, and I need advice. I like the CNC warrior galil folder, seems very well built and sturdy. The magpul zhukov is another possibility. What say you AK guys on a good, stable well made folder???

I have the Zhukov on a couple of converted Saiga rifles, a 5.45 and a .308 and like them a lot. They feel and work well and went on with no issues. I have shot the 5.45 quite a bit with an Aimpoint on an Ultimak mount and it is easily my favorite AK, if not my favorite rifle of the whole AK/AR/etc. bunch.

Saw a couple of unconverted Saigas at the pawn shop yesterday. A .223 for $750 and a .308 for $650. Both had the pistol grip stocks that did not require moving the trigger forward. Prices seemed pretty high to me for something that needs more dollars and work to be closer to “right”.

I got mine at the fun show for 500....already converted, pistol grip, trigger, bullet guide and all. BUT, I'm glad I gave it the once over, as the dimwit who had it put a nice yankee hill flash hider on it...only problem was it was a 223 flash hider...that could have been a mess. Gun shows....buyer beware. Excellent deal over all as I shot it yesterday, no flash hider of course, but it shot like a champ. I am gonna order the Zhukov, from what I been reading and what you said, seems they are solid...thanks

you got a seriously good deal for 2019. I sure wish i had gotten a 74 when I could

The Zhukov is nice. Just don't forget the whole thing is plastic and it will serve you very well.

Ya, wish I would have grabbed a few at 179.99 a 47 and a 74...and ya , plastic will work for a while I think. Until I break it and go buy the CNC metal one

Saiga's are the way to go. I just get them when there cheap. I like the RWC imported saigas. Some have the back end already converted over and you just have to change barrel components. I also like the Zhukova hand guards and allows for a longer reach. However I don't agree with cutting the handguard retainer off a perfectly good Arsenal to put it on. It will hurt resale and collectablity of the gun. I bought a Arsenal SlR 107 FR used last year for 1200.00 bucks due to not getting the gun new when the getting was good. The previous owner had done this for a Zhukova hand guard and a ultimak. I bought it for a shooter but still hate the fact he cut the hand guard retainer off. I have just learned to deal with it.

The Zhukov folder is GTG. Very solid, good lockup, adjustable LOP, sling attachment options, and the ability to add a riser if you want for better cheek weld with an optic. Magpul did a good job. My only gripe is that it folds the wrong way, in my opinion. Personal preference, and not even one that is much a big deal.

No experience with the Zhukov handguard, but the MOE is nice & tight, feels familiar like Magpul should, and you can keep the retainer if that is important. Hogue also makes a really nice handguard if you like the rubberized feel. I do, and I like their pistol grips the most.

Congrats on a great scoop!
