School Me on Brit L1A1 Clones

I'm probably late to the game, but I am a collector of military rifles and want to get one as close to a Brit L1A1 as possible. I know Enterprise Arms and a few other companies made US receiver on Brit barrels and parts.

I also know Century imported a few Brit L1A1 semi autos but ATF classified them as full autos but allowed them to be grandfathered in. I hear these are few and far between and almost as pricey as a full auto.

What are some good manufacturers to look for? Is there any hope of me ever assembling a Brit clone with a British receiver?

If DSA gets their Aussie receiver out, that will be close. As far as a real Brit receiver, Track down one of those LEO Centuries for around $4.5K plus.

Gunplumber, can make Brit cuts on IMBEL type 3 receiver. Recommend finding a non gear logo IMBEL receiver with L1A1 charge handle cut, L1A1 mag cur and send it to Gunplumber for Brit cuts.

Entreprise receiver from years ago was the only commercial British model receiver made at the time with custom serial numbers.

Coonan also made British cut receivers.

No, ATF allowed their import without modifying them for thumbhole stocks, between 1989 and 1994, for individual law enforcement officer sales because they were not machineguns. Individual LEOs have no NFA exemption.

They did not have to be Republican import ban or 922 compliant.

Well,

I have bought Brit cut receivers from Enterprise, Coonan, and DSA. Enterprise and Coonan allowed for custom serial numbers.

I haven't shot any of them and am hoping to send them to Gunplumber for build.

Thanks, sounds like Enterprise or Coonan is the way to go. How hard is it to find kits with original British barrels?

Post a WTB paying $1000 and they’ll come out of the woodwork.

I'm sure I have two that I have no plans on building. Original barrels but not matching #'s

I have one, nearly two kits socked away.

The intent is to build an Australian SLR. I have a century Imbel inch wearing Brit Arctic Maranyl and a Coonan inch wearing Walnut.

Besides an Australian cut receiver I think I need a safety or a take down lever, a barrel if I don’t want to use the Brit one and probably a couple small parts.

When I retire and move to a free state....
