I'm no expert, but that's sounds pretty good for the real deal.

They were marked with an import mark on the exposed portion of the barrel. Something like "CAI ST ALBANS VT" and "ENGLAND". Also, probably due to the way they were imported (dismantled into separate crates of uppers and lowers), they tend to have mismatched uppers and lowers as well.

The import mark is especially important, because there are also L1A1s out there that migrated across the border from Canada in a more enlightened time. Those are definitely NOT legal...the LEO-marked ones at least have some legal standing to be in the US.

As to the Indian rifles...they're marked a bit differently ("1A1" and R.F.I. come to mind) and the Indian parts look like they were made with files and hand tools in a high school shop.

.
I dunno. Tell that to my buddy that has all the import paperwork from the 1960s. Declared, stamped, signed, imported.

Aussie L1A1's

Nog's friend isn't the only one who has one with a US Customs declaration. Mine is a AD061 and is searcut. When I bought it, It had a Canadian C1A1 Butt stock, A C1 bolt/carrier, A Canadian Pistol grip,C1 two slot wood hand guards and a C1 Barrel. The Upper and lower are Aussie. Now it's all Aussie again. When Andy the Aussie and his Mrs stayed with us for 4 days it was all Aussie again and when he smelt the Aussie Furniture on it that was all NOS out of the Aussie creosote waxed paper, You'd thought that he died and went back to the land of OZ again. The Aussie wood was all from Fal Files member EX-1.

Brit SLR/L1A1's have the import marks on the barrel. Most were FTR'ed long before they were sold to Century Arm's International Inc. In today's market 2500.00 is a steal of a deal. I've seen them sell in the past as high as 4500.00 in the past 8 years. In today's market people are asking STUPID sky high prices for Belgium Fal's on different web sites like Gun Broker and others as well.

+1. $2500 is pretty reasonable for one of these guns.

Interesting, though I suppose not impossible (C1s were being sold to members of the DCRA after all)...I guess such a rifle would need to have all of that paperwork accompanying it. Is your buddy's rifle the Vietnam bring-back that's been mentioned before a few times?
