By official accounts, the pig contagion wreaking havoc across Eastern Asia has virtually skipped over North Korea, with a single outbreak reported there in May. But wayward feral pigs have stoked concern that Kim Jong Un’s reclusive state is hiding an African swine fever disaster.

Five wild boars were found dead in or near border areas separating the two countries this month before being tested positive for the viral hemorrhagic disease, officials in South Korea said. The finding reflects the freedom with which animals roam the 4-kilometer (2.5 mile) wide buffer zone that divides the nations and creates an involuntary park and refuge for fauna.

Well, the Chinese have been buying a lot of African real state, and sending their worst to work there. Talked to a Nigerian (just a commoner, not nobility ) who said his brother rented an apartment to a couple of Chinese... just to find 15 living in it, shitting in the living room a few meters from where they were cooking chickens. Really classy folks. He kicked them out and they were pissed about that, as in police and the firm got involved.

Vietnamese seem to hate them worse than the vietcongs ever hated Americans... or French.

When wife wrecked in January flipping a Dodge diesel 4x4 end over end, cutting down a utility pole and then pulling up over 100 feet of fence as rolled four times first person on seen was an out of state paramedic who called me and said she needed life flight to major hospital. I called local State Patrol Post and was patched through to the officer on scene and requested life flight to NE GA Med Center or Grady in Atlanta. Locals carried her to local hospital that didn't even have an MRI machine where doctor dosed her to lethal limit with morphine and released her with orders to follow up with primary care in two to three days. They called me every 15 to 20 minutes asking when I was going to be there. Hospital was over an ninety minutes away from home when didn't have ice on roads.

Got her from waiting room as said could not leave her in patient room might need. What they wanted was her gone due to head injury. Drove her home fast as possible, put her through shower and did triage. Soon as had her clean and dressed called local 911 which recognized issues were bad immediately and had her in NE GA Med Center in under ten minutes. Fifteen minutes after she went into a coma and then Code 4 where took five minutes to get her breathing and heart beat reestablished and she remained in coma another half hour. I knew something was wrong driving her home but when they took me to a room away from waiting area but not to her and had three chaplains talking with me was preparing myself for a doctor to tell me she didn't make it. Had severe brain injury and was in ICU for five days then moved to Level 2 trauma unit.

In two months it will be a year from accident and she still has some issues with blood not prepared out or cranial cavity causing pressure and constant headaches. They found 13 broken bones in hospital then specialists found five more after release plus lots of torn connective tissue. If not for me ignoring the doctor at first hospital and calling 911 after doing an examination once got all the mud off her (they didn't even wash her face at first hospital) based on my 30+ year expired EMT course and Wilderness First Responders certification realized she was hurt bad and had severe head injury. All the local EMTs had to do was look at her eyes to see they pointed in different directions, pupils were unresponsive and eyes were filling with blood turning red where supposed to be white and they went into full speed action.

I had a diagnosis from a Paramedic on scene and State Patrol told local EMTs to have air lifted to wherever helicopter crew felt best they ignored him and took her to hospital which is known to be one of the worst in the state. All the bills came from corporation in Florida. She had card with insurance stuff stating had life flight insurance and even hospital doctor didn't pull the chain to start the process but waited for me to drive ninety minutes to pick her up from waiting room and though had discharged her made me sign three forms saying she was released in my care. Had I not gone the court routine once before and realized hospitals have the money to pay lawyers till break your lawyers even if takes a half dozen appeals the little guy gets screwed with pile of legal bills on top of medical bills so we are sucking it up hoping by spring she is back to base line or at least 85% of base line before accident.

U.S. service members are strong but they’re still people, and people get sick sometimes. But when one gets sick at the last minute, that can have serious repercussions on their unit’s ability to execute critical missions.

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency, or DTRA, is trying to get ahead of this problem by developing a predictive algorithm that knows whether a service member is falling ill—due to anything from a cold to exposure to biological weapons—up to 48 hours before they start to show any symptoms.

Send you to collect a "sample" from each G.I. near you. Had a great uncle that went to retire from Lockheed Martin (spent most of his life in the Skunkworks building) at age 65 and was told he had to finish project was working on. At age 67 he was still there and his wife got cancer so he said project complete or not he was retiring and gave his two weeks notice. Next day an Air Force General walked in his office and advised him to rescind his notice of retirement or before he could finish out his two weeks the Air Force would invoke some war powers or national security act and draft him putting him back doing exactly what he was working on for 1/4 the pay he received as a 40+ year experienced engineer at Lockheed.

He always had to let his superiors know where he would be or may be at any time. My mom was hosting the family Thanksgiving one year when our phone rang asking for my Uncle Fred. He listened for about three minutes, said yes sir and asked if someone could carry his wife home after the celebration was over as he had to leave and as was customary could not even tell his wife where he was going or when he would be back. Two months later he returned and later told me he had spent that time in Iran working on some antiaircraft missiles we had sold the Shah of Iran that were not working as supposed to in their environment.

Uncle Fred worked on Friendship Seven, most of the Lockheed fighters from the early 1950's till late 1980's, the C5A, was loaned out to NASA for the Apollo program and all sorts of cool stuff. He told me whatever was our admitted front line capabilities in any system we were actually 20 to 30 years ahead in reality if they had to fly or launch the secret squirrel stuff.

Thus they are going to draft all the old codgers like Yellowhand and have them swapping the members of the military with a Q-Tip.

I retired in 1990,,,that "retirement" lasted a couple months,,,came home from the office,,,damned Spec 4 had left a message on the answering machine,,,you've been recalled to active duty for the duration of the conflict!!!

I did not even know who we were mad at.

11 months later,,returned home with a decent tan.

I get another of those calls,,,going to hobble my old ass south a few miles and sit the next one out.

I don;t believe they can do anything with looking at the DNA???? from a swab,,,could be wrong,,,just don;t keep up with this stuff anymore.

Nearly twice as many people are dying from drug-resistant infections in the United States than previously thought, according to a report published Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Superbugs" are responsible for more than 35,000 deaths and nearly 3 million illnesses each year, the report found.

The best thing about that movie,,,John Cash's opening.

China just announced/admitted to,,,,two cases of pneumonic plague

The incubation period is typically one to six days, but can be for as long as nine days.

Humans can become infected by the bite of infected flea, unprotected contact with infectious bodily fluids or contaminated materials, or through contact with another infected patient.

Of the three versions of the disease, pneumonic plague is the only one that can be transmitted from one person to another by coughing, for example. The other variants are typically spread by infected fleas or animals.

Pneumonic plague has symptoms of respiratory failure similar to pneumonia. Left untreated, it is fatal.

Genetic sequencing research shows the Black Death actually originated in or near China before variations of the plague spread to Europe and Africa and killed tens of millions during the 14th century .
