"A" Cartouche on Garand stock

Can anyone tell me what the A stamp on the wrist of my Garand stock means as opposed to the P in the circle? Nice USGI walnut stock on my DCM garand from the early 90s but has an A stamp. I can't find a reference to this particular cartouche.

The P means the rifle was Proof Fired. No indication of location associated with it. Seems odd that your rifle doesn't have that mark, may be a replacement stock?

No cartouche that is simply A that I know of.

Anniston Army Depot is usually marked, AAA,AN, or A4

There is also;
AA - Augusta Arsenal
AHA - USMC Arsenal

I don't think these cartouches are stamped in the wrist area other than the circled P.

No expert on this stuff by any reckoning.
Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth.

It's been ANAD (Anniston Army Depot) for many, many years now (since 1962). It was Anniston Ordnance Depot (AOD) before that.
This ain't New Zealand. Just saying.

Could be a local unit stamp.

A for A company/Troop/Battery.

Lots of markings were added for arms room orderliness. Paint on butts, heels, foreshocks even. Tape on receiver sides, like stickers you made with the alphabet numeric tools.
