Swiss P49 mags

Anyone found aftermarket mags or know if SIG P9 mags will work in a P49?

I have a Sig P210-6 which is the last variation of the fixed sighted P49. It came with two magazines and I bought two more from CDNN at $80 each....

The P49/P210 eight round magazine is a copy of the Walther P38 magazine. I have a pair of P38's with a bunch of magazines. I tried one in the P210-6 but it was just a few thousands of an inch too long which kept the heel magazine catch from engaging the back of the magazine floor plate.

So I took a Swiss needle file to the back of one of the P38 floor plate's and carefully filed it down until the magazine catch would engage. The P38 magazine fed FMJ rounds without any problems. Ditto truncated cone profile JHP's. P38 magazines are still available at reasonable prices the last time I checked.

If one has a Dremel tool the job would be a lot easier and certainly quicker.

And so it goes.

Thanks much! I thought they looked similar, have a P38 Interarms import. Just wanted to source mags before dropping a wad of cash on a Grail Gun!
Thanks again, Retired Bum!

Glad to have been of help, Nathaniel01.

I remember reading on another forum that ProMag offered P210 magazines. But that they were basically cheap junk that didn't work.

Used Swiss made magazines are very pricey at $150 and up per unit. So buying a few P38 magazines is a very attractive alternative.

And so it goes.

Let me get this straight. You get a $2000+ pistol, but want to go cheap on magazines. Why?

It will be his pistol if he buys it. If he wants to use P38 magazines that is his business. I modified just the one P38 magazine because I wanted to see if it would work. With four factory P210 magazines I don't need to use P38 magazines but it is good to know that I could if it became necessary.

And so it goes.

210 mags are scarce at any price.

What makes Walther mags 'cheap'?

On a side note, P38 mags will also work (minor modification) in a Sig 225. Original 225 mags are getting pricey as well.

Oops, I typed P9 instead of P6. I thought these mags looked similar. I scored 20 of these:

Unfortunately my P49 purchase is on hold. But I have 22 mags for my P38!

Should have posted this in the SIG forum here, just noticed it existed last weekend.

Just got my p/49 today! Mag modification (p38) will be more difficult than I thought, but doable. Similar to cutting down 30 round AK mag to 20.

P210 Legend magazines with the baseplate replaced with one from a SIG P225 are a perfect fit and virtually indistinguishable from originals.

Make sure you use SIG factory Legend magazines.
