Exactly... C1's had the metric external lightening cut on the magwell (still otherwise cut in the traditional inch pattern manner except no internal lightening cuts, per the Canadian standard). The next generation, C1A1's, had the more recognizable rectangular cut on the magwell, along with the non-cooling slotted handguards, brown plastic carry handle, different profile stock shoulder, different mag release, etc.

Here is a thread showing the first C1 ever made. The Canadian armorers have long since upgraded it with a C1A1 stock and carry handle as might be expected of a rifle in service, even if it was the first one...
