It seems if you haven't previously possessed a prohibited weapon in Canada you can not own one in the future? In the US the manufacture of 1986 NFA Act provision, automatic weapon receivers cannot be made and registered, however you can still own existing NFA weapons.
I understand that, as the number of Prohibited licenses continues to shrink due to deaths or license surrenders, some collectors have started buying up these rifles as they become available, just to keep them from being destroyed or welded up.
