Re: Who is Buying All the Ammo?

With dirt cheap prices, all the past 'unavailable' times in recent history and their talk last year about adding massive additional taxes,, Im truly amazed it took this long for bubba's nickle to hit bottom and realize guns are just everywhere....
And none are worth shit without ammo....

We have Egrets here... we had a half dozen transient residents in the swamp at my old place every year.
Juvenile blue herons are white also,,, makes ID harder at this time of year.

Re: Holland rear sight tall or extra tall

Ive always wanted to do some metric hight folding rear sights, as back up's for fals with low mounted optics. I already solid modeled a hythe sight. Is that what you would be interested in? maybe one with only a folding leaf and the correct height? Sounds about right...even just the regular l1a1 fo...

Some paint off gasses for 6 months or more,, so not very surprising. DOD has a very specific paint specification for storage cans,, I remember there was only one manufacturer able to supply our mil spec explosive cans and meet all requirements for DOD qualification. You can most probably google 'DOD...

Re: M1D Garand one inch diameter scope mount

Ive one of those,, humped up with a late SA barrel and a Kollmorgen 4x commercial scope. At first glance it looks good, but check the bbl drawing number or scope markings and it screams clone. Are you claiming the mount is worth double the whole rifle ? Oops,,, my bad, disregard.... You said m1d,,,...

Re: Steel case ammo

I have now documented 7 (or is it 8?) FALs that have KB'd using Tula Steel case. I fired thousands of rounds of Chinese steel case back in the day with no issue. I also was a range officer for a "shooting adventures" program where people would pay to shoot a variety of different guns. The organizer...

Re: Lower receiver lock lever screw thread pitch?

8-36 is a standard UNF size commonly used in lots of electrical fixtures.
UNC taps are everywhere,, but at least here, UNF taps are like hens teeth.
If you have a hard time finding one locally, try an electrical supply place.

Re: It’s Better to Get Shot with an AK-47 Than an M4/AR-15

Oh FFS just stop. The point is TWIST RATE IS NOT A MAJOR FACTOR IN WOUNDING EFFECT. Yes-under SOME conditions you can stabilize a longer round with a slower twist, but not in AL, and not reliably across the range of likely combat conditions. In very cold dense air (Arctic conditions) we found The 1...

Re: It’s Better to Get Shot with an AK-47 Than an M4/AR-15

I was there- I don’t have to “look it up”. I mentioned helmets, and body armor was STARTING to become a thing in first rate militaries. Not yet fielded in quantity, but we thought it was coming. The requirement was to “PENETRATE” the helmet/armor- by definition having to do with penetration ...

Re: It’s Better to Get Shot with an AK-47 Than an M4/AR-15

It was all about penetrating body armor, and helmets that we expected to encounter in a major conflict. The reduced soft tissue damage was considered an acceptable trade off. Dependent on atmospheric conditions, the slow twist with the longer (heavier) projectile would result in failure to stabiliz...

Re: It’s Better to Get Shot with an AK-47 Than an M4/AR-15

I was under the impression that the slower twist rate kept the bullet just barely stabilized, and when the bullet was slowed by tissue it immediately destabilized. If I am mistaken, thank you for educating me. As for ammo, you suggest soft point? With the AK 762x39 round, it is my understanding tha...

Re: It’s Better to Get Shot with an AK-47 Than an M4/AR-15

My understanding as well. The slower twist rate, longer barrel (higher velocity) is what caused the little 223 round to destabilize and do so much damage. We now use shorter barrels, higher twist rate, and heavier bullets, which essentially negates the real magic behind the 223 round. The downside ...

I would think it easier to build around and easily replaced when needed, if you instead started with a 55gal drum with removable top and clamping band. I thought 55 gallon drum very readily available but very thin. we talking around .035" thick as compared to LP tank's 3/16" thick wall. You thinkin...
