Carolina Run and Gun - August 4th, Clinton, SC

Very excited to announce that Run and Gun is sweeping the nation...and coming to South Carolina!! Details to come - but for now - save the date of August 4th! We will be running and gunning over at the lovely Clinton House Plantation in Clinton, SC.

We have a website up here - https://www.carolinarunandgun.com/ (I did ask henschman for permission to borrow all of their writings lol)

And also a Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/carolinarunandgun

Right now we are looking at offering a 3k, 5k, and 8k (which will be the 3 & 5 combined). Figuring 4-9 stages.

Awards, obstacles, stage design etc will be hashed out shortly :)

I am also looking for RO's if anyone feels generous. You would run on Friday and RO on Saturday. I'm just keeping the match small and to one day while we flesh it out the first year. Then next year, it's on!

Ted Kennedy May 01, 2018 07:26

Awesome! I love to see this sport grow!

kotengu May 01, 2018 07:48

Schweet! You're starting out this "Match Director" thing right by posting at 5am. Get ready for some long days ahead of you. :D

Ted Kennedy May 01, 2018 08:23

Matt - feel free to forward that email chain to Kelly - I know you'll be "mentoring" the poor girl.

tac-40 May 02, 2018 21:07

Kelly, I will be available as an R/O. Depending on the course of fire and the run obstacles, I might be able to compete too. If I do, it will be a SLOW 3K time ( read walking pace):rofl:

stimpsonjcat May 18, 2018 23:23

Fabricator and I are in for RO and at least the 5k.

If I can somehow convince the wife that this would make for a great vacation destination. :whistling:

tac-40 May 19, 2018 11:52

Look up Clinton House to see all the amenities.

Did it for you:

Columbia, Greenville, and Spartanburg are all about an hours drive via interstate to many things to do on vacation.

beseventeen May 21, 2018 20:28

Two weeks until registration opens. 8k entrants can count on a slackline as one of the obstacles...you will need to traverse from one end to the other on a line approx 4' off the ground with all of your gear. If at any time you or your gear touches the ground you get to start over. You can go on top or bottom. Easy, right??

My favorite part of this mess is that the people whose asses it kicked the most are the people who loved it the most. And most of them went home and figured out how to beat it.

I'll share a lesson learned from March: I started with the same rules you have above. But after seeing so many people fall and struggle to the point of almost quitting the entire match (and taking up so much time and causing backups), I modified the rules on the fly to "you must either cross the line without touching, or suffer enough that my RO deems you worthy to move on".

A few people saw me letting people restart where they fell off later in the day and were understandably upset that they struggled so hard to finish it right. But I promise you no one who got any "slack" took less time to get across or could use their arms at all by the time they finished.

It's your match and your call though, and I'll happily start over if I fall off halfway through. Or force other people to do so if that's where you put me.

I guess the usual tourist items, Aquarium, Zoo, Amusement Parks. Anything that I could take my wife and son (11) to for one or two day.

Thanks Tac for the links, I suspect the wife and son would rather stay at a regular hotel. Appreciate the help.

True. And probably I wouldn't really be so hardcore about it...but that doesn't mean I don't want people to think that :D I do think we will add a time penalty if you don't/choose not to finish (not sure how much but make it hurt).

I will have a wide mouth carabiner this time!!!

TxGunDawg May 22, 2018 08:51

Slack line you say?

You’ll need an RO designated to watch. To motivate.

It would have been very difficult without Mel helping.

It seems those who struggled, did so for 15 to 30 minutes.

Those that didn’t, crossed in short order.

You could do as the WTF biathlon does. A 30 minute penalty for not doing an obstacle.

It’s hard to say for certain what effects the slack line had on the shooting. If I had to guess, on average it made the stage harder.

It certainly did for me.

Lurker66 May 22, 2018 12:35

Yo can ya post this on OKFAO and Iíll sticky it.

Doubt I can do this year but I think Iím ramping up for next year.

Now now, all of the ROs are very positive and chipper when they're causing someone else pain. I distinctly remember Stimp smiling from ear to ear when I fell off the slackline in March.

Maybe I'll post myself at the slackline. I did don the bunny ears for the GA match, and I was a cheerleader in high school, so there's that.

Nuttz May 25, 2018 13:14

She was a bubbly bunch of bunny cheer ROing at RBGC! laughing and smiling ear to ear as she ordered me to "come in her box"!

...I was (yes me) a bit taken aback and am happy I got it on GoPro!

You I can see. But you'll be busy with MD duties, so it's gotta be somebody else. The bunny ears made a big impression in GA -

And you should know better than to say something like that to Nuttz. Unless you just did it to throw him off his game right before he shot the 600yd target. In that case, well done!

I don't smile when ALL shooters are suffering, occasionally I feel bad for them. Not you though, you deserve it.

Nuttz May 25, 2018 19:44

I didnít need to be an RO to be cussing your ass Tiger when you were stuck in the tube (that had a rope) with that muthaf@ckin pack you were carrying!

I'll be glad to RO the Slack Line Obstacle. I have been told I am a very empathetic person. Of course this was at a bar in my younger days and they may have said sympathetic or just pathetic. In any case, I'll volunteer for this one.

Sponsors rolling in pretty good now, some big names too!! Trying to keep all my info updated but man I'm running out of time :D

Kahntrol Solutions
https://kahntrol.com/

https://i.imgur.com/9ffGqiom.jpg

What makes Kahntrol Solutions the best solution for muzzle brakes? Recoil Mitigation - they outperform any brake of similar size. Staying on Target - Pro Shooters in 3gun and PRS disciplines who use their brakes will tell you that there is no comparison, even against brakes costing twice as much. Lack of Concussion to the shooter - while louder than no brake, they do NOT blast the shooter in the face and sinuses like brakes with similar performance in recoil reduction. Price - while not the least expensive, they are much more affordable than most of the "So-Called" Best Brakes, AND outperform them. And most importantly - giving back by sponsoring matches like ours!

You'll find these brakes on my personal rifles as well - excellent quality and performance!

Arrow Dynamics

Also welcoming Arrow-Dynamics as another fantastic sponsor for our Run and Gun! Highly respected for their quality gunsmithing, Arrow Dynamics specializes in long range precision rifles and custom builds. Also offering cerakoting and NFA item transfers. Thunder Beast Arms

Announcing another fantastic sponsor on board - Thunder Beast Arms!! Coming in big with the donation of a certificate for 100% Off One TBAC Suppressor, and two certificates for 50% Off One TBAC Suppressor!! One of the finest companies in suppressors, this brand is already well dispersed through the shooting world because of their proven performance. Now you can run and gun...quietly!

Kelly, the rough schedule will be???

Assuming R/O's shoot Friday and competitors on Saturday only.

Interested since it is a 2+ hour drive from home, depending on traffic and SCHP presence , so looking to spend the nights in a hotels nearby instead of spending a lot of time on the road.

Yessir! RO's will shoot on Friday, we will probably go ahead and start early, like 8am to beat the heat.

Competitors shoot on Saturday and we'll start right at 7:30am. Awards as soon as we tabulate the scores/runners finish.

Filling up pretty quick! We've got 16 spots left for the 8k, 11 spots left for the 5k, and still plenty for the 3k. Don't delay...register today :D

Stage 3
Quote:

loads rifle and neutralizes 6 plate rack, offhand, at approximately 100-150 yards.
Generally speaking...plate rack plates aren't very big. 3 minutes.

Stage 4
Quote:

shooter enters school bus from the rear.
Just want to say this sounds cool already. Kelly, the COF has no note about the distance to the pistol targets...I am assuming it is not short as the shooter must reset them on exiting the stage? Also, penalty for not doing so (shooter will be gone, along with their card)?

Stage 7
Hmmmm...I wonder if I have any of those 168gr Israeli 9mm bullets left?

Got into a bit of a row today due to scheduling conflict to be there and RO and shoot on Friday. I don't draw issue ultimatums often, but had to for this inaugural event.

Very stoked to come stroke out in the heat with a bunch of crazies.

That's right, you tell them who's boss, this is RUN AND GUN and it's more important than work!!

If I haven't listed pistol distances, then it's short, like 10-20 yards.

If you don't reset the targets then I'll probably add another penalty like 'unsportsmanlike conduct' or something, 30 seconds or something like that. We'll be reminding you though as you're getting off anyway.
