View Full Version : Recovering old emails

I am in the early stages of a pissing contest with an online motorcycle parts vendor. Unfortunately I deleted a couple emails that would make my case. I deleted them last week, before the shootin' began. If I take my computer to the Geeks can they recover the emails?

If you just deleted the emails from your IN basket, you should be able to recover them from your trash can. Depends on your operating system. If you deleted them from your trash can, then they are gone permanently. Recovery means pulling every pieces of data from your hard drive and putting it back together. So if the old stuff hasn't been overwritten by new stuff, it can be recovered. But the cost is often not wallet friendly.

Yep, I did some more digging. They're gone. Thanks.

Might the items still be on the web server that feeds your email reader?

I like gmail because there's no real reason to delete any.

Download Recuva.

There's a small chance they're still on the server. It just depends on a few things, like what you're using to get your emails.

Some desktop email programs wont automatically delete email from the servers, some will. If youre accessing it directly, through hotmail or gmail for example, then its probably gone if you deleted it from your trash.
