View Full Version : What do homosexuals use to oil their pump?

Oil pump that is - on a pressure washer.

Just bought me a slightly used 15+yr.old Honda gx340 11HP pressure washer from a homosexual. I usually prefer to use the same type & weight oil as has been previously used so thus my question of what these people use for lubrication. Can't see any identifying marks on the pump, rubbed off I reckon. I think it's 3200 or 3600 at least, the wand is rated at 4500. I heard plain 'ole 30wt. NONdetergent works just fine. Then I saw somewhere that you need "special HIGH pressure" pump oil with secret additives, anti-foaming, extra ANTI-CORROSION Technology, etc. for double the price. I'm thinking the spendy stuff is just the regular 30wt. nondetergent dumped into a fancy jug.

Anyone know if these oils are the same or if there really is an advantage to using the spendy oil?

Thanks:bow:

"Pump" not rump.

I thought they used a pump when they can't find a rump?

Kinda strange, the last one(same part#) says it is a detergent 30wt., wonder if it's a misprint?

Thanks for the links RG:bow:

Probably astroglide.

Thanks for the tip but I wasted my whole quart of astroglide trying this. Thing ran like a raped ape till it ate out the seals:(

Without knowing what model and make your pressure washer is, I just got this from a Honda powered pressure washer manual with the 390 engine. Seems as if the 340 is no longer made.

OIL CHANGE RECORD
Check pump oil level before first use of your new pressure washer. Change pump oil after first 50 hours
and every 3 months or 300 hours thereafter. Use SAE 30 weight oil, non-detergent

That is an older unit so pump will most likely be an AR, but could also be a CAT, or COMET?...

"IF" this is a unit you will use often and one you care about then I suggest finding your local P/Washer specialty shop and buying the pump SPECIFIC oil..
If it something you will run once or twice a year then just go Non Det 30wt and call it good...

I ran/run a 13H/P Honda with an AR pump as a BIZZ often doing jobs that last several hours, or ALL day.. When I had the rig built I went with a GEAR drive pump as this allows the pump to run at about half the RPMS the Motor runs at.. This significantly extends the pump life..

Personally I choose to use quality oils for all my maintenance thinking the added service life outweighs the few dollars I'd save buying cheap ass oils..
