What is this 7.9 mm ammo????

I got about 900 rounds at a garage sale. The boxes are marked:
15 rds 7.9 mm cartridge for light machine gun M37
NC-05
Lot PPU 59/78 Lot MBL 86/78

very clean brass case with headstamp of nny 1975.

I believe the M37 was an 8mm Italian MG.

Sounds like Yugoslavian 8x57mm ammo for the ZB26/30 (Yugoslavian M37).

No,not too hot. It doesn't always fire out of my 98,light primer hits. Not sure right now if its the ammo or the rifle.

Common with Czech and sometimes Yugo 8mm. Put a Wolff 22 or 24 lb spring in your 98 and that should help. I use a 22 lb in a Brno 98 and it ignites everything.

A trick I just read in SGN that I had never heard of is to recock a mauser without opening the bolt [I just see broken thumbs and rifles as the likely result of that what with hangfires] You use a rim of a cartridge in the little slot near the back of the cocking piece.

May be common knowledge, but I had never heard of it before...

Yeah,I saw that and Czeched by DOU to see if it had the notch. It does.
The Yugo ammo looks like the primer is set in deep, not flush with the base.
The DOU will shoot the Romainian just fine.

::: Please explain. What sort of "kaboom" in what sort of weapon.. Did it blow the weapon apart, put an eye out, what? Caliber, Any lot #s? There's a lot of yugo out there and enquiring minds want to know!
