When you drill to attach the feed ramp do you drill all the way though. How well

This doesn't answer your question but here in Finland some guys have used Plastic Padding's Chemical Metal to create feed ramps for Saigas. According to them works well and is easy to do.

Why does a Siaga need a feed ramp, wont it feed as it comes from the factory?

In a feeble attempt to keep these politically correct, the Russians made these with a feed ramp built into the mag. The mag catch is also a little longer so regular AK mags won't lock in. Take a look at a regular AK mag and you will see a square notch cut out of the front. The Saiga mag has no notch, it's flat across the front.

The Russians must not know about the Dremel tool because these rifles can be converted to take HiCaps pretty easily. One of the steps is to make or buy a feed ramp. Regular AK's have a feed ramp, Saigas have an empty area waiting for a feed ramp.
