Barrel threading pilot idea?
Has anyone ever tried using the rear gas tube support as a thread alignment tool when threading 9/16-24RH twist? If this idea is sound, could the gas piston be used as the pilot to enter the barrel or does the fit need to be a tighter than what the piston will do?
Thanks, Jason |

Jason,
How soon do you need this? I could possibly make you a bore guide, it would be a week or two. I THINK I have a 9/16x24 RH die. You sure you have a RH thread Muzzle Thingy? JW |

Definitely RH twist and it screwed right on to a spare gas tube nut . I think I can crank out something here to act as an alignment tool, but for the heck of it how much do you want for one of the guides?
Thanks, Jason |

I have seen something like what you describe for sale on eBay for about $25. Not sure who made it but it looked home made (not a full time maker) but appeared well executed.

That is a barrel timing tool that uses the gas tube nut and an aluminum rod to allow you to time the barrel to the receiver. Court in Fla used to make those types but now has a better model out.

He's not looking for a Barrel Timing tool like Court's (good product though).
He's looking for something to guide a die while threading a barrel. JW |
