I just bought an A.R.M.S. #3 for my Stg58 and a Hakko BED-35 electrodot sight.
now I believe the A.R.M.S. has a Picatinny rail, and sight is supposed to be Weaver, I measured what I think is a weaver rail( on my mini-14 mount) and it's about the same as the Picatinny specs that I found at Roderus Custom. What is the difference if any between the Weaver and Picatinny rails? the only thing I can see, is the vertex of the ring is a little higher that the rail vertex by maybe .010-.015. Anything I should know? Thanks in advance

The cross slots on a weaver style are narrower and theres no "spec" to the spacing between them, except for that it's the same thing.

from what I can tell, a picatinny rail has a lot more cross slots than a weaver which gives you more flexibility when mounting optics, and the slots are all spaced evenly. But I do think that the rail may be a few thousandths wider than a weaver rail. I'll take the picatinny rail over the weaver rail any day simply because it gives you more flexibility when you're setting the scope for the proper eye relief if the rings are already attached to the scope.

They are different, and I think the picatinny rails are larger (wider). I know that the weaver mounts will fit both the weaver and picatinny rails but the picatinny mount will NOT fit the weaver rails. My .02.

TAC-40 what you said makes sense- that picatinny rail spacing is slightly wider then weaver.
I have a DSA carbine with DSA scope mount that has picatinny rails. I have Weaver mount Kobra on it. There is "play"- the smaller weaver mount Kobra will shift slightly on the larger picatinny rail spacings. Notice this also with the ARMS 22M68 mount on my SA Scout. Have to ck if the ARMS 22M68 is the smaller weaver and the Scout rail is the larger spaced picatinny? |
