Izzy K98 Mauser in .308 Questions
I have been thinking of a Izzy K98 .308. Are these converted from German Mausers, Israili Mfg or what? Will German K98 parts interchange ? Thanks in advance , Thumper

Most of the examples I've come accross were very nicely done. I think Paul and Ludwig would approve.

They aren't exactly rare, but not common either. Check the auction sites and gunshows if you want to find one.

Well I May live to regret it but I ordered a Gunsmith special from SOG yesterday. ADDY said cracked stocks, missing small parts ,No bolt I hope that all three dont apply! last time I ordered from the gunsmith special I was well pleased I got a nice Turk mauser& I could not find anything wrong. It was burried in cosmoline! If the reciever is OK it should be worth $70.00 Don't you think?Could be another chance to rescue a old warhorse!I will post a report when it arrives, Wish me LUCK! ,Thumper

AR Thumper...I could be wrong, but there was a pretty good "run" on those SOG specials a few months ago when they had a bunch of complete guns for sale. A lot of people from other C&R gunboards bought them. I got one then and it was very nice. I think the ones they have left may indeed be the bottom of the barrel. Hope this isn't the case for you. Good luck.

Queenie,I hope I get a nice one just missing a bolt,if a 98 bolt will indeed fit. I have a bolt and a few small parts. I saw stocks in Shotgun news for $35 if that was all that it needs I'm all set. I just hope the barrel & reciever is good. Im keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!

At least expect pitting under the wood on the receiver. I've yet seen an Izzy that didn't have any. Good luck!

The one I got a few months back was not from the bottom of a barrel at all...it was from the bottom of the Dead Sea. The wood was soft and the barreled action was pitted beyond belief. If it were just a case of small missing parts or a cracked stock I could live with it. Other folks, maybe yourself may get a primo rifle for $70 but I didn't have that luck. I'd advise canceling that order and let them choke on the rest of the Izzys. IMO, when it comes to these Izzy rifles, it's best to pay $150 or more for an example you can see in a picture or first hand. In my opinion, the one I got was worth $25 for the bolt and bolt release pivot pin I salvaged and nothing else. Good luck.

OH Well. after over 2 weeks of waiting ,going to the gunshop, FFL going AWOL,and generally trying to catch my FFL in the shop(she sells real estate on the side!!)I finally got her to Phone & try to Track down The Izzy. Come to find out they had sold out except for a couple with wintertrigger models according to the nice lady on the phone. Well Progun1 kinda put a damper on my Enthusiasm and the long wait I decided to cancel the order. Iwill save my pennies for another adventure later on! I bought mine from Gunplumber. He refinished the whole thing a nice, dark Park.
They're out there. Keep looking, you may find one on the auction boards. JoeLad

I got mine years ago in a small Arizona gunshop. $100 out the door and no rust/pitting or anything below the woodline
. The stock was beat, but looks ok and still shoots nice.mrf2 |

I may have spent too much. but I got one this weekend at the gun show here in the People's Republic. It came with a grenade launcher and looks as if it has just been taken out of the arsenal. It has a blond stock, and appears to be unfired. I went to the gunshow expecting to sell 2 rifles, which I did. I didn't anticipate coming home with two different ones.

Izzy Mausers
Some Israeli Mausers were manufactured by FN in .308. These Mausers are in intermediate length action as opposed to the standard length German and Czech rifles. FN bolts and German/Czech bolts are not interchangable. FN bolts are not as easy as standard bolts to locate simply because FN did not produce near the numbers of Mausers as did the Germans and the Czechs.
