Fal Split in 2 pieces
Hi
With the CIA Imbel Receiver on my second build doesn't stay locked shut. If I push down on the barrel then the takedown lever releases (actually pops out). The plunger that retains the upper & lower is pushed almost all the way into the reciever housing-- The takedown lever is pushed back so far that the lever's range of motion is about 0.50 or maybe 5 degree of travel. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I file back the receiver tang? I know always file the low cost peice 1st but the filing the plunger will not increase the distance the plunger protrudes over the rec's tang or will it? Should I be filing away the clearance underneath the plunger? Any recommendations are welcome. Randy |

I had the same problem with a CIA R1 i bought. I went to www.DSArms.com and bought a new locking lug and spring, and presto problem solved.

Locking lug is new part from DSA, but I'm still using the old spring. I think I'll replace that part as well. -- Thanks

I have seen a few like this,
Sometimes the lower is a little to wide (side to side) to fit in to the recess on the bottom of the receiver. Try this, Strip the lower down to nothing. Join the lower to the receiver with the hinge pin and see if the lower sits fully in the recess on the under side of the receiver. If it sticks it is hitting on the edges most likely. I file the inside edge of the of the lip that fits over the outside of the lower. In other words I make the underside of the receiver wider to allow the lower to fit inside. Then make sure the lug on the receiver is not bottoming out in the lower. You can use a small piece of clay to check if there is clearance in the that part of the lower. After you check these 2 possible problems then you can fit the locking body to the lug on the receiver. I hope I have not made this sound to complicated. It's not. Court in Fl. |

When you have the two stripped as Court said, with the lower solidly rested, thump the receiver at the back with a rubber mallet. See if they close up.
Court if I'm screwing him up jump in. My Coonan was NARROW(ment narrow). My Century receiver was a little long. I filed a few thousanths off the back before it would latch.

It is possable that the receiver is long and hitting the recoil plate.
When it's closed hold it up to the light and see if you can see light between the recoil plate and the receiver. Also look for rub marks on the recoil plate. Look for rub marks on the top edge of the lower where it sits in the upper receiver. Court in Fl. |
