Taurus Model 627 357 mag
Just picked one of these up at the recent crossroads show in phoenix. Seems like a solid and accurate sidearm and cant wait to go javelina hunting next year with it. Anyone else have one? Any problems I should know about? Just curious.
Thanks Dale Arthurs |

By 627 I'll assume you mean the 4" .357 Mag Tracker revolver. Two things to do - first of all remove that silly piece of orange sticky crap off the front sight. I also ground my front sight into a reverse taper so light would not reflect off of it and reblued it. E-mail wolfe springs and order a trigger/hammer spring kit from them - the difference is amazing.
My .357 Tracker is one of my favourite handguns and is stupidly accurate with most loads including .38 Specials. A couple of 7-shot speed loaders would be a good idea. |

Well Dale if I where you I would of done some research before you bought.
It seems like when you buy a taurus you dont know what you are going to get. Someone said it was like playing the lottery, you can get a really outstanding hand gun or the worst piece of crap you have ever owned. You can go http://www.handgunreview.com/ and read for yourself. |

Yes i meant the 7 shot tracker and should have specified. I have already purchased 2 speedloaders and a bianchi(sp?)holster. I had asked a few people for info and they all told me it would be a good buy. I just thought using the net which I havent had access too in a long time would be a way to get more opinons although I know its too late if i hear something terrible. I had a taurus pt-92 9mm and could never hit a damn thing with it. Thanks for advice guys.

My .02. Taurus makes a high-quality, exceptionally competitive priced revolver. I have owned several and have been impressed with their dependability to the point I've bet my life on them by using them as my concealed carry weapon. I hope you will enjoy the .357 and expect that you will. This positive opinion extends to the new Taurus line of .22 rifles.
On the other hand, I will not own a Taurus pistol (semi-auto). I have simply heard too many instances of undependability (and experienced a few firsthand). Taurus, it would seem, has some kinks that need to be worked out of the production line when it comes to their autos.

Wouldn't recommend or buy another Taurus - had two that were POS.
The model 96 .22lr revolver went back to the factory 3 times to repair the same issue. It didn't eject spent shells from the cylinder properly. The factory refused to replace it, kept sending it back saying there wasn't a problem. The early model 669 had the ejector rod unscrew when firing it every time at the range. Their warranty service doesn't mean squat if they don't take care of the problem. Do yourself a favor, pay the extra $100 to get a Smith and Wesson instead. |

I've had a few Taurus revolvers over the years. My .357 had problems with the crane and ejector rod. On the whole, they are OK but in all honesty I think most people are better off shelling out the extra $100 or so and getting a Smith. The company has come out with a few unique models in recent years, so depending on what an individual might want, they may be the only game in town. In areas where S&W makes comparable models however, I would choose the Smiths from now on.
Taurus seemed to experience a big jump in popularity about ten years or so ago when they seemed to increase their advertising budget and get tight with a number of the more popular gunwriters. They hired a few a few like Ayoob to write their yearly catalogs for them. Jan Libourel was constantly touting them over at Peterson's Handguns during the time period in which he edited that publication. IMO the whole thing said a great deal more about the gun-rag scribblers than it did about Taurus handguns however.
