Argentine FN49 in .308

I see SOG has Argentine Navy FN 49 in .308 for $695, page 116 of the latest ShotGun News. Has anybody seen these? Do you think they are worth $695?

I like mine. It is quite nice. It will be a closet queen mostly. So many guns and so little time.

Thumbs up

Some folk have said that they're overpriced compared to a few years ago. Ever hear that before?

I bought one in that I'm collecting military .308 variants/conversions. The metal on mine was 90%+. The mag well is a little bare but the barrel and action are nice.

The stock has one small gouge and several bolt handle 'circles' due to storage. I've had some luck in steaming most of them out. I'm going try to minimize the 'dents' without any major sanding.

I hear that only 5,000 were made. That to me makes the $$$ worth it.

I love the 20 round mag. Hope to locate more without losing a limb or two.

Exclamation

Last night I reviewed some info. Only a couple of hundred of the 5,000 Argies were converted to .308. Makes the $$$ less painful.

Well, it's sorta the other way around. Nearly all of the Argentine contract FN-49s were converted to 7.62x51. There are very, very few rifles remaining in the original 7.65 - mostly in museums in Argentina.

So on pricing, I would offer an immediate $1500 to $2000 for a correct Argentine still in 7.65 due to the rarity of these few remaining original rifles.
