visit to "dan's"
well, after years of buying from dan and several visits home to pa.
i finally went to dan's yesterday ! you wouldn't even know there was a bussiness of this magnitude where it is located. it's a big steel building tucked in behind a mini storage facility.. but, once inside..my mouth hit the floor.. crates and pallets of ammo arranged perfectly in rows, and stacked seemingly to the roof. parts of fal's neatly origanized in boxes and bins, sks's nagants, and mak's,everywhere... dan came out into the warehouse and we introduced ourselves, and from the years of talking to him on the phone, i envisioned an old guy,, but nope he is a sprite guy, just a few years older than me... way nice fellow all, told him i was looking for a certain item and off we go into his private stash of parts, and oohhh the cool goodies he had back there.. he had what i was looking for, i hand inspected it, and said sold... also put dibs on several other parts, when he decides to sell em.. hung out in the warehouse, he gave me run of the place, picked out some more fal parts, bought some ammo, and generaly snooped. there was this guy hunched over in the center isle cleaning mak's,,and we got to talking and lo and behold, it is none other than wolfsburgbob... really nice guy as well, we chatted, shared a few laughs, kinda got to know each other so we can relate when we chat on line... well i got to looking at the nagant's, which i know nothing about, called a fellow files member about what is there, we chatted i described a few of them to him, and he tells me he wanted one of them.. so i tell dan, the fellow member calls him back, as my phone died,, and they do the deal.. all in all guys and gals.. paul in the warehouse is a real nice guy as well, and knows what is what in the parts business and should get you what you want when he pulls something for you.. dan has a very nice thing going on over here, and has more stuff in there than he advertises.. bob is a heck of a guy,, will chat a lot with him in the future.. bought some real nice self handpicked parts for my future builds, paid a real reasonable price too.. and generally relaxed for about 4 hours snooping.. oh, i also have pics of a funky green colored set of imbel hg's, and some warehouse shots to post when i get home... call dan all, he probably has what you need and for a real fair price... if i missed anything, sorry, but i am sure to call him first for my parts needs.. , |

Great report, and as I expected Dan and his 'crew' are gentlepersons all.

Dan is a great guy. My son and I have visited him many times and spent hours and hours prowling around his warehouse drooling. I got my handpicked G1 kit from Dan that he had back in his "private" stash. Dans crew is tops too.

I'll be making my third trip Friday morning. More ammo and a few parts. It's always great to visit the big boys toy store and like Splatter said, Dan is a great guy to deal with. If you haven't been there you owe it to yourself to visit. You won't regret it.

SHUT UP ALREADY, I only live ten minutes away and I am trying to keep it a secret where hes located.
I found him accidentally, as his mailing address is different from the physical location, or was years ago. But there is nothing like walking in and being surrounded by MILLIONS of rounds of ammunition, flares, rifles, pistols, and getting hit with that smell, that ether smell when you open a brand new can of ammo, and cosmoline, I just sold two Moisin Nagants tonight from a crate of them I got there, did I need a crate of M44's, no, but I always wanted a crate of rifles to keep under the basement steps, and boo hoo, now Im 2 short, but I still have that soviet bloc cosmoline smell wafting up from my hands as I type, Ahhhhhhhh. It kind of makes you want to take an empty bath tub with you, and ask them to pour loose rounds over you and literally bathe in ammo, it'd probably be a little chilly though this time of year. "it smells like........Victory.", quote from, "Apocalypse Now", but relevant to being in Dans. |

What I want to see is a picture of you standing happily inside a huge crate of FAL parts kits with a pair of wood stock lowers in your hands...
...just like another fellow I remember at [a supplier whose name we must now keep nameless because of certain penguins]. That actually was a somewhat goofy grin you had on your face, [Moderator's name deleted]!! --Radio Last edited by a mysterious Moderator with all-seeing powers November 28, 2003 at 03:35

Yes, I like dealing with Dan. A story I've told several times on the Files was when I ordered a couple of Grade III kits, with one of them being a Christmas present for my son. I mentioned this to Dan and he made my boy's kit a Grade II as a Christmas gift from him as well.
That kind of generosity goes a long way to help a guy's business, but isn't expected. Just shows what class Dan really has. I just wish the .gov would allow the release of all those kits, as we're running low of Imbel kits.

Just got back. Got 1200 rounds of the Aussi ammo. No strippers or bandoliers. 300 rounds per ammo can in boxes. Got the short front sight post a better gas tube and gas piston and spring and the cleaning kit that goes in the pistol grip. It even fits in the SAW grip from Tapco.

idsubgun,
That does not suprize me at all. I have only been to Dan's twice now and saw him at the gunshow once and he greats me like I am a long time customer. That is how customers should be treated, like their business is welcomed.

Dan is just a super person with which to deal. Placed an insignificant order with Dan (personally) for some 9mm and he was worried about how to keep my shipping costs down. What a guy!

Dan truly is the salt of the earth. I must agree that he goes above nd beyond to keep his customers happy. I find things at his place for $2 that others are selling for $10-15. You now he is making s decent profit yet he is 1/3 the price of other vendors. Kinda irritates me that the others are so darn pricy. No problem though, Dan's is about an hour from me and well worth the trip if only just to drool on him floor.

Mark,
Just returned from hunting the "Corn Fed Deer" of Ohio and saw your post. It was absolutly CRAZY to "run into" the infamous "Splattermatic" on one of my trips to Dan's. I had a really good time chatting with you and discussing the REAL issues in the GUN HOBBY today....THE ANTI-GUNNERS! I am also glad to see your Mom is recovering from her fall,...as she is one TOUGH MOMMA! Take care, and may God bless You and Your Family in this Holiday Season, Bob Williams |
