K-Phos???
I've read KG's info on this stuff and I've seen a couple of reports of guys using it...my question is, is it really as good as KG makes it out to be, or is it just something esle for them to try to sell? Anyone else used it prior to applying gunkote? Any recomendations? I think it'd be hard to go wrong at only 10 bucks a can. Only the best for my build.....
Thanks, Adam |

It is a great base for an application of GunKote. Not as good as a good parkerizing job, but alot less expensive.

Well, yeah, aside from REAL parking...I guess is shoulda said only the best for my build (that I can do myself)... I want this one to be mine from the ground up.
Just a satisfaction thing. Thanks for the input. |

I agree with FAL guy. I've used it and it seems to adhere pretty well. The finished product doesn't look as nice as applying it over park, but it does work. I've even used it on a lower that I was unable to remove all the old paint. I used chemicals, scrapers and steel wool but couldn't get it all off without sandblasting. I applied K-Phos and then GK and it gives every indication of bonding pretty well. The finish isn't smooth and even but that is to be expected.
The question I still have is whether or not I would get the same results without the K-Phos. I've never tired it so I can't say. For $10, you can't really go wrong though. |

One other comment on using GK on surfaces that are not parked: It comes out glossier. Satin black on parked surfaces looks pretty subdued. Use it on bare metal and it looks almost glossy. The park soaks it up and keeps the glare down. If I were to use black on barre metal, I'd use the flat black.

Grrrrr.....dammit, I just looked at my can and sure enough, I ordered the satin. We'll see if they'll take it back unopened and give me credit towards another. I guess UPS is the only way to ship this stuff? Grrrr...
