Question US PARTS COUNT FOR AK?

How many US made parts must I install on a AK build in order for it to be 922r compliant?

I think 5-6, one less than a FAL because there isn't an "operating rod"
FSE h/t/s + K-VAR US furniture set = 6 parts, enough to use a foreign muzzle device.

a US made milled count as 1 so you only need 3 more with the usa brake.

So if I understand this it takes 5 U.S. parts? You mentioned a milled receiver what about a U.S. stamped receiver? Is there any difference in the parts required if a stamped receiver is used?

a USA made receiver will count as 1 922r compliant part (milled or stamped). milled receiver need 4 usa part to be 922r compliant. and a stamped receiver needs 5 usa parts to be 922r compliant.

One more for the stamped because it has a trunnion that the milled doesn't.

Stamped = 5 + 1 if using a brake.

Milled = 4 + 1 if using a brake.

I think we're saying the same thing here:

Stamped = minimum of 5 total US parts if no brake, minimum 6 total US parts if
using a brake, any brake.

Milled = minimum of 4 total US parts if no brake, minimum 5 total US parts if
using a brake, any brake.

Common US parts available:

Receivers (stamped and milled)
Hammer
Trigger
Sear
Gas pistons
Brakes
Pistol grips
Handguards (both pieces only count as one together)
Buttstocks
Magazine followers
Magazine floor plates

Wasn't there some ATF ruling about modifying MAK90's in particular?

I'll go surfing for it, but I remember reading something....

Here it is (TG for Bardwell)
http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs.cmu.e...i_auto_faq.txt

Also be aware that you are not allowed one bad feature on an
imported gun, under section 922(r); while it may not become a
"semiautomatic assault weapon" (and violate section 922(v), below)
if you put a pistol grip stock set on your MAK-90 rifle, it will
have been assembled in violation of section 922(r); unless its
parts content is less than 11 of the listed parts being imported,
all the rest being USA made.

Note also that section 922(r) only bans "assembly", it is not
a crime to possess a weapon "assembled" in violation of this
section. However it may be subject to seizure and forfeiture, under
some circumstances, if ATF can show it was assembled in knowing or
willful violation of the Gun Control Act, under 18 U.S.C. section
924(d)(1), by clear and convincing evidence.

(I found the 2nd paragraph interesting....)
