What to do with that stock disc hole (Danish Garand)

So I have this AIM parts kit that apparently came from Danish Garands and I want to build it with a 308 barrel. The stock is pretty dark, but not looking TOO awful at this point. A lot of the dings have steamed out and a good sanding didn't hurt its looks. But it has that stock disc hole in the bottom of the pistol grip. What to do with that hole? I'd thought of smelting my wedding band down into some neat design, but I don't want to think of my ex every time I get out the rifle. Seems the only logical thing to do would be to inlay a cartridge head of 7.62x51, then pour over some of that clear plastic stuff that looks like lexan. I think it would look better than an empty hole, and it would remind the operator that this isn't a 30-06. Only Lake City seems appropriate for a Garand. Anyone have an old beat up piece of LC 7.62x51 that has outlived its usefulness? My top dollar offer is $2 including shipping.

Any other ideas for that hole are welcome. It's probably the size of a nickel, though I haven't tested a nickel yet. I'll try tonight. Lets hear some more ideas.

Byron

That's a great idea; won't get any suggestions topping the casehead one.

Got one you can have. Just PM me with an address. Been going metal detecting at the site of an abandoned town up here in NH and all I've found so far is where the National Guard has been playing war games. Found tons of .223 & .762 blank cases all over the ground and a spent smoke grenade in a cellar hole. It's marked LC 00.

I like the casehead idea. That would look good!!!

Here is what I did to mine. I made a brass disc for the hole, just like the one that was supposed to be in there. The originals had the year they were last overhauled and some letters stamped into them.

Maybe a repro disk with your initials and year on it?

Say, that's not a bad idea either. And it would fill the hole perfectly, instead of having to fill in around the outside with something.

And maybe I was a dumbass. Does LC ammo even have "7.62x51" on the case head? I'd hate to put a commercial case head in it just to show the caliber.

Thanks for the ideas.

I looked at some other Lake City stuff I have and from what I can find it dosn't have the caliber on it. I have LC blanks in .223 & .308 and also live rounds in .30 carbine. All have only LC and the year of manufacture as a headstamp.

Some of the Danish kits had dark brown french walnut stocks, they look rough in military finish but with some sanding the wood is really outstanding.

I filled in the disk with acraglass mixed with sawdust - a brass disk would look sharp tho.

Is it odd if the stock doesn't have the disc cut out? I have a danish Cmp garrand which has the serial # stamped in the bottom of the stock(which matches the reciever), and all the proper proof marks. No cut out on mine.

Yeah, this wood is really dark, no matter how hard I tried to de-oil it. It looks like genyowine American type walnut that has been tinted with that reddish military stock stain. Decent looking stuff, but someone took a couple nice sized bites out of it.
