New FAL guy receiver question

I went nuts last week and bought an STG58, G1, and 2 L1A1 kits. (I think there may be something wrong with me)

Now I'm trying to learn everything about receivers before my purchase. It seems that Imbel's are the best but I'm hoping that someone can give me some advice on which one, or ones, I should buy for these guns. I would appreciate any advice......on building FAL's. Thanks

I have built a G1 and an Imbel with Enterprise recievers. They are fairly inexpensive depending on the type you want and both are right on the money. However, I have read numerous posts here of poeple who have had trouble with them. I know friends who have used Imbel GL's and DS Arms and have had no complaints. Do a search you are bound to see who is using what and what is working best.

DSA are awful hard to beat. Those Type I & IIs look great on stgs & G-1s. DCI Type I from FAC are pretty decent. Lots of folks reporting problems with Imbels lately. Not sure what that is all about. Enterprise seems to be having real quality control issues. If they get squared around their Inch receiver would be right with your L1A1s. Stay away from Hesse or Century receivers. Leave those to the gunsmiths with lots of patience and too much time on their hands.

You are not nuts, YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIMILATED!

Depending upon what you're looking for there are many options.

If you prefer function to authenticity, then the Imbels are the way to go.

If you want authenticity, then look for FAC, DSA, or Entreprise and choose the receiver type that matches each kit, i.e., Type 1 or 2 for the StG and G1, Commonwealth (aka, "inch") Type for your L1A1s.

If you're looking to build yourself, I recommend getting a good FAL manual (such as that published by Imbel) that details stripping and most assembly procedures. This, along with Gunplumber's guide and the Cruffler site already mentioned, will get you alot further along.

If you don't want to do the build, there are several good 'smiths here on the boards that offer assembly and refinishing services at a reasonable price.

Remember, measure twice, cut once and like the man said: "Some assembly required."

Good luck...HTH
