Buggered up gas block.

I got some imbel kits recently and 4 out of 6 have extra tight gas nuts.upon closer exam,I noticed it looked like the gastube pin holes had been staked at some time. Also the area of the gasblock behind the threads, looks rough as hell.Does this area need to be smooth? Can these be saved or do they need to go back to the place i got them. I'd like to chop and silver solder the gas tubes anyway. thanks in advance...Dave

Tight gas adjustment is normal on the imbels.
Use JB or other lapping compound and they'll smooth out in short order.

What about the distorted gastube pinholes. Will this matter when I silver solder them? Are you looking for a tight fit between the gas nut and block?thanks

I had the same problem with the original Imbel regulator, I replaced it with a numbered unit off of a STG/G1. It now works great no too tight, not too loose.

I have found that if you thread the gas regulator on backwards
and it goes on OK than the threads are OK.

It's probably rubbing on the smooth area past the threads where the bleed off hole is.

I polish the inside of the gas regulator
(smooth area, not the threads) with a fine Cratex wheel to loosen it up a little.

Removing the spring that holds the gas regulator in place
on the gas block makes this process much easier.

Good luck, Court in Fl.

I've had a couple that had burrs around the hole for the gas tube pin either from staking the pin or maybe someone slipped once with the punch when removing the pin. If the regulator threads on fine backwards take a look at the pin hole for burrs.

Me too I have had the tight reg. also are you sure there is a problem with gas tude area cause the Imbels have rough machining and it does look sometimes as tho they are bad when really its just the bad machining Imbel have alot of castings and rough mashinig alot of the FAL smith clean them up a bit. Most of these Imbel were cranked out very fast to meet the needs of a army that was going to go to war well it never happened and you know the rest of the story. So the maching on all but a few parts is kind of rough and really rough if you compare it to a STG or G1 or like made FAL.
