What tools, spare parts should I have for CIA L1A1?
Hi again to all,
I'm in need of advice related to which special repair, cleaning or maintenance tools I should have to work on my CIA L1A1" inch" Sporter. I've seen 3in1, 2in1 tools and the headspace gauges for sale. Wonder which of these are essential for maintaining rifle or just to have in case of repair. Also wonder what spare parts I should be stockpilling to keep rifle up and running.(i.e. springs, clips, pins, rods, nuts, washers, etc....) I have a couple of FAL books on order from FAC which I hope will be filled with good info on repair/maintenance. Any info on these subjects will be much appreciated and cherished. Rifle should be here wed.4/1 and I'm pumped!!! Thanks a bunch, Spark-e3 |

First thing it will need is a good cleaning. Usual cleaning stuff required. You'll also need a buttstock tool. A tool to remove the gas tube nut is a good idea. Most of the vendors will have some versions. Century doesn't spend much time cleaning so you should plan to.
I would try it at that point. Plan on replacing the 2-piece gas piston, assuming they still use it. They are junk. A set of springs is a good investment. Tired springs will cause you all kinds of grief in odd malfunction disorders. Maybe a spare firing pin & extractor and you are probably good for life. |

you'd better get a couple complete parts sets....you know, just for spares. Of course, you'll end up building them.....yeah, better do that.

I keep several spare parts in my GI M14 cleaning kit including a sear, sear spring, front sight post/spring/retaining pin; rear sight unit with one screw & Z spring, extractor & spring, firing pin & spring, trigger & sear pins , hammer spring unit and handguard screw.
I also keep an Aussie FAL roll with the combo tool/brush/grease and a set of Israeli gas port scrapers and a pull-through. In another (3rd) pouch I keep a stubby flat head that I've ground the flats parallel and a broken shell extractor. The buttstock tool usually stays on the work bench (with the balance of the spare parts kit) The roll goes in a pocket, the cleaning kit on the vest and the 3rd pouch in the ruck. Least needed - first dropped in SHTF situations. If you buy a kit for spares better buy 2 because you'll hear it calling out in the middle of the night "build me....build me..." Ask me how I know.

Thanks again to everyone that has given me VALUABLE info on this subject. I've made a few calls and it looks like some of these items are not going to just drop in my lap. Here's where I thought I might find these items.....FAC....DSA....TAPCO....CIA. If anyone knows of other good sources, please post or email me. It's not here yet, but maybe by end of day!!
