Mitchell Mausers...Are They Worth It?

Has anyone bought a Mitchell Mauser 98? Are they worth what they charge for one?

Well, for starters he is selling M48 Yugos as K98s. They are a different rifle.

Second is the M48s have been around for awhile at about $150 for unissued vs. $395 Mitchells wants. BTW, even if you get one at a show missing accessories, you can get all the junk they show on their webpage for $50-60 total from an outfit like CDNN.

Why the $195 difference. Maybe he cleans up the cosmo? Awful pricey.

Alot of money to pay for a fancy box and paperwork, my brother-in-law bought one, it's a scam, you can get the same thing for less than half the price as stated above.

it's not really a scam.for the longest time mitchells was the only place you could get a m-48.then the floodgates opened up and places like century and interordance started importing them into the country.mitchells payed a higher price up front because they didnt buy as many as the other guys.thats why im holding out and hoping that century or io starts importing some of those k-98's that fed arms is selling.

I paid $149.95 for mine, looks Unissued & all 100% matching but No Accessories
There is always someone out there who is offering a better deal it seems.
Seems that you cannot "jump" on anything when they are first offered.
Seems like they "sucker" in the first buyers with higher cost & poorer quality.
Seems that they then drop prices for the next set of buyers who are a bit more frugal & want good quality
Seems to me that it goes like this till all are gone and as long as you act in time, you do better off but take the risk of getting "bubkiss" if you wait too long

an older coworker told me today that he bought two of them for just under $500 each. i didn't have the heart to tell him he had been royally screwed.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

I think maybe there was a time when places like Mitchells and Empire Arms could justify charging more for aquiring the better examples that were floating around the market. However considering today's market where there are lots of guns available in vg-excellent condition and everyone has them, paying "Premimum" prices for "handpicked" examples is not necessary. There seems to be a "core" group of loyal buyers still willing to pay these "Premium" dealers. I don't know if they still think they are getting their money's worth but I've personally had EXCELLENT results buying from the main distributors (Century, AIM, Wholesale Guns & Ammo, etc.) without haveing to pay someone extra to do the "culling".

It depends of what you pay for it.
Being a dealer, I bought several, at dealer cost, when they first came out. I kept one for myself. I have a total of $30 into a brand new M-48 Mauser, so, yes, it's worth it to me.
Would I pay $400-$500 for one? No.
I bought a M-48 from AIM last year for $99 on sale. It's damn near as nice as my Mitchell M-48.
But, I must say, that my Mitchell M-48 is probably one of the nicest I've seen. And, it IS brand new, never issued. And all that I bought have gone to people I know. Each person is happy and all the rifles shoot very well.

So what did you sell the Mitchell Mausers for dollar wise??

Were they selling them at wholesale price to C&R's?? If so whats the wholesale price on them?

Just curious.

When they first came into this country, the retail price was $250. Dealer price was $210. I sold them to retail customers at retail prices.
These included the bayo/scabbards, ammo pouches, slings, cleaning kits, etc.
I just checked my records to make sure it was $30, but I see I have $40 in it. Oh, the shame!

Now, as I said, this was when they first hit our shores. They've gone up since then. I get their flyers, but don't recall what the going prices are. I don't know if they sell to C&R's. I'm a Type 01 FFL.

$250 wasn't a bad price then. I heard they were really nice.

Although I have seen some nice ones. Some look like they were reblued or reparked. And some have the numbers put on with an engraving pen. That really sux.
