well ive put 300 rounds thru the aussie and no complaints, really its worked flawless, received my go/no gos and hs pins today to build my g1...on a whim i decided to check the cai, it closed with 2 thumb pressure on the go...good... then it closed on the no go with about the same pressure...AAAAAHHH!! im gonna die a horrible death from shrapnel imparted by the accursed cai frankenfal....ok so here i sit, smaked on the shoulder a few times with a hammer and punch but it dont budge, might run by harbor for that cool little press they have... the ls is marked a 4, which according to mark at ars is a 264..my question is this, i should expect to decrease hs correct?ie: maybe a 263...??
thanks you boneheads, your making me broker by the minute... and my den looks like an armory since december..i told my wife i needed a workbench and came up with a folding table attached to the bookshelves..on pretense she could use it for her artsy fartsy projects....lol thanks guys!

The only way to know for certain is to remove locking shoulder and measure. Who's to say it has not been modified. Then when it's verified, increase by 2 (i.e. .266)

Definitely measure before you go buy one. Century is famous for grinding all sorts of things. In order to tighten up that headspace you will need a larger locking shoulder. Not a smaller one.

Here is a question for you: did you happen to remove the extractor before checking HS?
You definitely have an excessive HS problem because the bolt closed on a NO-GO. What I don't understand is, why did it take two-thumb pressure to close on a GO if it will also close on a NO-GO? At any rate, you need a larger locking shoulder. Hopefully the harbour freight press will work well for you. Gary |

What Gary said. Something is wrong with your measuring. Dirty chamber, extractor not removed, dirt in bolt head area, bad gauge. It just can't take the same pressure with .002 change in gauge if things are working correctly. Sort that out first.
Since you are closing on the no go, ya might as well break the bolt down, knock out the LC, clean it all up and get the pins out and do it right. |

If you are closing with two thumb pressure on the no go, REMEMBER a 308 no go is a 7.62 nato go gauge. you still have .008 before you are in the unsafe 7.62 field gauge territory.
Look at the brass after you fire it and see if you have any excessive HS signs. |

To get a good feel you'll need to take off the extractor. The brass shavings are normal. Excessive HS would cause incipient case head seperation rings. (ring forming around the case near the bottom)
