Ok,
Hand tightened the barrel onto the receiver and it stopped around the 10:00 area. Is this ok, or will I need to do some filing? I looked into the receiver and the barrel is really close to touching the inside area of the feedramp? maybe? Anywho can someone tell me what I should do next. Do I need to file the end of the barrel off some to make it hand tighten to the correct area? Anyone have a pic of the 11:00 spot that everyone here likes to achieve before the actual torque is applied to get it centered? Thanks, Andy

Yer way short, dude. Chuck it up and crank on it, see how far you get, just to get the feel.
Don't worry about bottom out yet, prolly no prob. File on it. |

You'll need to know if its stopping at the barrel end or the shoulder to know the next step. You're not going to hurt it.
A little filing....... A LITTLE filing may be necessary |

Re: Barrel timing on my imbel w/imbel GLR????

If you have a few thousanths space between the breach face and the backside of the feedramp your cool. the part you need to relieve a bit is the barrel shoulder. You need to hand time so the small notch on the topside of the barrel shoulder forms a triangle with the outside of the receiver and the inside of the gas nut hole serving as the other two sides. This is about 11:00 o'clock. |

After looking close at the setup there is a small gap in the front of the receiver where the barrel screws on. In other words below where the notches are cut for the wrench on the barrel. When I hand tightened it down I noticed the small gap at the bottom. It's pretty small, but I wonder if I tightened it good if the notch on the barrel will fall closer to 11:00 ish. What do you guys think?
Are there any pics that show the 11:00 position so I can judge where my barrel is at currently? It could be that it's closer than I think. First time for me if you couldn't tell. Thanks guys for the help!!!!!! Andy

Andy,
There's a picture in Bandit's "Building Documentation" at the top of this gunsmithing forum list. After you're in his site, see his "Assemble Upper Receiver" section, or just scroll through. It's a good documentation of a FAL build. |
