Camo paint?

I was thinking of trying my hand at doing some camo work on one of my FAL's and possibly an AR. Does anyone know what kind of paint I may be able to use? Also if there is some place that has camo patterns that I can look at, so I just don't have to free hand it? Also if anyone has done this before if you would send me some pics that you have that would be nice. Thanks

MadDog7.62 is a pro at it. He might give you some tips if you ask nicely.

I use mil-spec. paint from my local surplus store, then I put 3 coats of poly sealant on top of it to seal out the weather and protect it from scratches. Just make sure you use light coatings of matte poly seal (found in most artist supply houses)

IMHO, there is no comparison to DuraCoat (individual colors) or their CamoPak's (various smaller sized colors). They are the folks who do DSA's camo guns. The DuraCoat can be heat cured but it is not necessary. The finish is very tough and is the most forgiving in regards to surface prep.

It require a spray gun (Prevail) or an airbrush. The only PITA is that it is a two part mix (12-14 parts color to 1 part hardener). The sheen varies according to mix, thus it is better to make extra and waste it, than not make enough and try to get the exact mixing ratio again.

I have only used the flat black, but plan on getting a CamoPak soon.

Well I was watching this program a couple of weeks ago on the army changing it's camo uniform. This go around they are using a pattern not unlike pixels. More to distort the view of the solider than to blend him with the background. Now of course transfering this to a weapon would be time consuming and expensive. More than anything I wanted paints that I could experiment with myself on my weapons. I appreciate all who responded. Thanks

DuraCoat is much tougher. The drawback it that it does not offer the same lubricity. DuraCoat does not contain moly, so I would use a moly based grease on the wear areas.

Ya marpat that's it! It would look interesting on a rifle I would think? It would have to be done by machine though. In any case, I do have another question that wasn't answered before. I wanted to see if anyone had done their own camo designs and wondered if they could post some of their work? Also, how could one learn to put this on themselves. Is just more of a trial and error type venture (the patterning I mean)?

Man, it would take forever to paint those little 1/8 x 1/8 squares. Camo by Seurat?
