Finally Cleaned Up My Albanian SKS
The thread title says it all, but I finally got around to cleaning up my Albanian Grade I from AIM. I like the rifle a lot, I think it will make a nice collection piece, although the machining quality is very different from any other SKS that I have. I don't think I'm going to refinish the stock, as the bubbly old varnish is original, but overall the rifle is in VG+ condition. If Santa brings a digicam then I'll be able to post photos. The hardest part was getting the cosmolene out of the triggergroup and from under the rear sight block, they really dipped the rifle in completely I think. A bolt rifle is one thing to un-cosmolene, a semiauto like this is another. But, it was a labor of love that was worth it in the end for an SKS afficionado like myself. Now I just need to find a nice Romanian and I'll be all set.
The odd thing is the sling that came with it has a clip on one end but I can't figure out how it's supposed to attach to the buttstock. It's a D ring with a slide that goes up and down the D. Oh well, if I can figure out the K-31 sling I should be able to figure this out.

Quote:
The sling I have looks like the standard Eastern European sling with the clip attachment for the barrel end, but none of the Russian photos had an attachment on the end like the one I tried to describe. Maybe I'll be able to post a photo of it after the holidays.
