I have a Century Arms receiver blank that I would like to build into an 8mm. I thought it might work adapting a FN49 barrel in 8mm for this project. Comments? Anyone know of an 8mm detachable mag that is readily available that I might use if the project works out?
Thanks, Chuck |

Try www.ima-usa.com for mags. Maybe a MG-15 mag. Check the German WWI/WWII section and see what they have.

i do not know if you could do it. the 8x57 round is considerably longer thah 7.62x51 its @ 1/4 of an inch longer. you would definatly have to modify the ejector block loosing the BHO. could you use BAR mags they are cheap and abundant? 30-06 is @ 1/4 of an inch longer than 8mm so you would be working with a mag that is @ 1/2 an inch bigger than a fal mag. it really does not seem to be practical
but it would be great if someone could get it to work. just think about banging away with all that cheap turk ammo

avanarts,
Thanks for the tip on the mags. They may work for other prodjects I have in mind as well. falover, I agree I may be biting off more than is practical. I love to tinker and a friend just got a new milling machine that has barely been turned on. The BAR mags should work but I would like to keep the amount I have to change things to a minimum. Thanks Guys, Chuck |

How about using FND mags(8mm ones), bit more scare, but around. Slightly shorter than BAR mags, you could use orginal magrelese...
Besides Swedes had test samples in 6,5x55 so it can be done. Finski |

Not gonna work. The FAL receiver is sized for the .308. You'll never get an 8mm in there. You can go to a shorter round, but seldom if ever a longer round(especially in an auto-loader). Besides, as soon as you build it, the cheap 8mm will disappear. .308 will be around in quantity for years, but most of the 8mm is old ammo. Much of the cheap stuff isn't much good now. But just for your info,....
MG13 mags are about the only high-cap 8mm mags presently cheap and available. 8mm FND mags are the same size as USGI BAR mags. The 7mm mags are slightly shorter, but still too long.
