Repeat questions not necessarliy a bad thing...

I'm a newbie too...And I do have a great deal to learn. This website has provides a massive wealth of knowledge to the "young punks" and the "old crusty barstards" (no disrespect intended...my grandfather's quote ). Again, there is massive amounts of info. So much that it can be overwhelming at times to dig and find what you are looking for. It is obvious that there are people who contribute to this sight who are VERY happy to help those who have questions.

Take a little time to "dig." If you vistit a half dozen plus threads, and read back numerous pages to no avail., then come out and ask.

Even the experienced have a great deal to learn, and sometimes we all forget things. It cannot hurt to reinforce our knowledge. Even at 25, I still need and embrace a little reinforcement from time to time!

THANX!

Greetings All! Another FNG here. I've primarily been a handgun and shotgun owner for decades, the last year or two I have started adding rifles to the mix, the most recent being an M1A. Now I'm feeling the irresistable urge to add an FAL to the mix. (Gunsafes are proof that nature abhors a vacuum! )

I'll actually browse through the link/searches you've put together here before I start asking DNQ's (Dumb Newbie Questions). But, well, they'll still probably be DNQ's!

Happy Holidays to all.

Help!

When I try to access information by going to the newbie site it says that "Due to abuse...." I type in my user name and password and it rejects it. I'm sure it's correct but who knows?

I guess I have to have my password sent to me.

Thanks,

Try fal and fal as the combination. Every now and then Jen has that pop up running. I'm not certain of the criteria.

Talking THANKS EMD

Thanks EMDII,

FAL did not work, but fal does! It's a case of mistaken case...

Now I don't have to ask questions like, "Which end of the gun does the bullet come out of?"

As a newbie myself, I must say that I really dislike the format of a "search mask" for the FAQs.

The masks always turn up so much irrelevent information, and never go to the SPECIFIC information that is desired.

I might suggest that if some posts are considered worthy of a FAQ, they be put into a list of FAQs with keywords...not just a "search".

This is the format that seems to work well on other forums and special-interest sites.

I am just trying to offer constructive criticism. The site is generally very informative. But like the original poster, I find it irritating to exhaust the FAQ searches, then have to ask a question anyway, then get chided for not using the FAQ.

The problem right now is the titles exist as written. In some cases, I have modified the titles to have such words as 'ID' or 'Tech' in them, to help w/ the rather simple search masks in all the FAQs threads. The conversion of all the titles/search functions to Boolean multi-word will take me a bit longer. Be patient please: the various Forums FAQs took about 2y to make, sort, and pigeon-hole. Even with 300- odd threads in the R&D FOrum, there are a lot of posts for each thread.

I like the idea. I'll go do a bit more prep work and see if I can make mroe specific locators. Thanks for the feedback.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! I am brand new to this forum and sure as hell do not have all or most, or some of the answers. I started as an adherant to 7.62mm during the gulf war. I extrapolated on that in subsequent work (hey the M4 SOPMOD is great but a "high speed" pee-shooter is still a pee-shooter with expensive gadgets) Follow on research impressed me that although the M-14's available are great rifles, they are not the BEST battle rifles (I am a religious Falklands reader and have used both the 14 and FAL semi-operationally). So ask away, I know I sure will because true enthusiast will answer irregardless of how many sites are available out there, and WANT to do so. I love my FAL but I AM NOT a guru. I invite questions from my guys at work, it only helps them and through consequence, the team. I hope (and see) that most of the guys on these files see it the same way. Never be afraid to ask, if they dont answer or give you a straight answer, think about the reason, there are many who will do the right thing.

Thumbs down Yeah right!

I imagine there are a lot of guys like me who frequent this forum for fun because we are GUN lovers, guys who participate in the pistol sports (IPSC, IPDA, etc) and the shotgun sports (trap, skeet, sporting clays) and the legal machine gun shoots, as well as the rifle sports. We collect and reload and have safes FULL of guns. Like it or not there are a LOT of fine guns out there, in addition to the FAL. Some of us used them in the military in past wars and then went on to the civilian market, held respectable jobs and experienced a lot of the world. MY POINT---the FAL is a fun rifle and this can be a fun forum but it sucks reading contstant smart ass replies to some guy who is just trying to find out the answer to a question HE has. I don't care if you know all there is to know about every FAL variant in the world that is only a minute fraction of our existence and to try and make yourself look intelligent by lording over some "newbie" (to the FAL only, probably) by downgrading him and his intelligence is ridiculous. I remember the old adage that "The only dumb question is the one not asked"! Now, any of you "Old-timers that think you know it all" (yeah, right) can bad mouth me.........problem is that I don't mind, because I know that generally someone who trys make a fool of someone else is only fooling himself.

I'm an FNG to these here files, but not to guns. I've got just about one of every type of bullet launcher you can think of, but why three FALs? Is this a disease or just a phase that I'm going through? Is it physically possible to shoot all three of them at once? It's enough to drive a man to Ahhhhh! now I get it. That was a stupid question.

Got my first FAL 20 some years ago - haven't been quite right since. Memorized Blake Stevens, embarrassed myself at shows ( still do ! ) Got to thinkin' I was pretty sharp. Wish I'd spent the computer $$ on a coupla receivers instead - came to visit you folks and started gettin humble. Now I gotta learn how to work this dang thing to improve my selfesteem! But seriously, folks, Great site, great info, and while your brains are being mushed by newbies like me , be assured that your efforts are appreciated. What's this brown stuff on my nose??

Quick note from a newbie to all the other newbies. The parts of the site that are password protected, due to abuse, have the login and password in the warning. Please read the warning completely. That will save you a lot of grief.

In defense of myself and other newbies, if you are new to the FAL, it sometimes hard to know the nomenclature, until you start to immerse yourself into the religion of FAL.

Hey wait a minute...Maybe I can use that non-profit loophole to form a church...hmmmmm...Church of the FAL? Church of the American FAL? Church of the American Rifleman?....

Im new to the group, and own only one FAL Para, though I plan to get a new one in the near future. This one standard.
I think its grate that lots of new guys get into FALs, a new generation of FAL fans...
Ill get a new FAL because I think that the price of FALs made in Argentina will go up, is this correct?
Any one of you have any idea if prices of FM FALs will go up, is this smart or am I just buying another FAL? (Still, I dont have a problem with that... )

I'm definitely new to the group, and appreciate all the help that I have gotten here. I have used the search function, but to be honest, even with all of the linked messages there is a ton of information there. It takes a good bit of time to find exactly what you are looking for. Besides, asking a question seems more like participation than just reading.

THANKS FOR THE INFO.
I am now addicted to my FAL and even building a new one from scratch with the help of patience and good people like James (GunPartsGuy), Brad (GunThings) and Derek (AZEX) among others. I know that it can be frustrating for those of you who are very proficient at this telling the same to newbies like myself, but we appreciate very much all that experienced help that we can get plus we share the same addiction! Cheers for all of you that make this addiction an enjoyable one when taking the time and patience to share with us your experience and knowledge!!

I bought my first FAL about 15 years ago. They were relatively uncommon at the Gunshows in Atlanta, but I had fired them overseas and knew I wanted one. I bought a LAL1 that is all Lithgow with matching numbers at a local show for $575. I still have it!

When selected for a Counter Terrorism Team where most of the members carried departmentally supplied AR-10, I decided to order a Custom DSA Stainless Steel SA95 Para-Carbine. I am super happy with it. I was doing some marine work and considered it ideal for that duty.

I am building up a Styer StG-58 right now on a Imbel receiver. Which is what brought me to this site and the purpose of this post.

I have learned more here in 2 months then in my all my previous experience. Thanks to all for the efforts that are made to make this a great site!
