Colors for letters
Ok, I know white and red but are the fire and auto letters the only ones that are red on a g1?

I don't know if this counts. . .
My G1 came with a muzzle attachment that has a red "AUF" and such. But it is not attached to the G1 nor will it ever be. |

Well, I screwed the pooch. I tried the Testors paint method and used acetone to clean the letters. The dot matrix style lettering on a NGL Imbel receiver doesnt seem to want to take paint well or at least it isn't deep enuf to retain it while wiping the excess. I tried to let it skin and resulted in dim paint in and around the letters.
One thing I did that is suspect is using acetone to sipe off the excess. I think this just evaporated quickly resulting in the paint that was smeared around the letters to dry quicker. Should I have used thinner? Pots |

If you haven't tried Brownell's enamal sticks give them a go. Looks like a large crayon that you fill in the numbers and letters with. Wipe off the excess with mineral oil and let it dry.

Pots just mentioned that his NGL Imbel has dot matrix print on the receiver. That sounds like one of those carbide tipped inscribers.
The GL's have roll stamped lettering. I'm wondering if NGL is truely Imbel. Imbel would roll stamp whether the gear logo is affixed or not. I smell a rat. Ronnie

In Gunplumber's video, he shows some steps to go through with each receiver to make assembly easier.
He's working on an Imbel NGL receiver, and points out to the camera how there's dot matrix ingraving on the reveicer that has left the surface very rough. He proceeds to sand down the engraving to make it smooth but still readable. Looks like the Imbel NGLs are dot matrix engraved, but the gear logo ones are the roll stamped lettering. |

for what it is worth, my 2002 marked gl imbel is lettered in dots. looks like it was done by a different font than the PAC Import lettering.

Pots: I appologize for not being very specific...I posted that description to try and squish a rumor of 'phony Imbel NGL receivers' as quickly as possible. I re-read what I posted and I didn't mean it to be as snotty as it must have read like! I'm really in no position to give advice...your rifle looks way better than mine (mine is still a kit awaiting the next paycheck)!
The dot matrix lettering must be a nightmare to try and paint in. Is it SOP that it be painted along with the selector switch and sight markings? |

Pots - There is a small hash mark, in between the front sight protective wings that is used as an indicator for your front sight setting, this is usually marked in red also.

Neither did I!!!
Normally I just marked the "Fire" in red, everything else in white. I DON'T mark the "Auto" positon, just my thing. Testor's modeling paint, acetone (got plenty for parking as it is), careful hand, no problemo. I don't have any dot-matrix receivers, just the real stuff. Even so, with such crappy starting material I personally wouldn't be trying to highlight it, anyway. --Radio

Well, I think my NGL ,dot-matrix, is it really Imbel made, not the "real stuff", imported by Century receiver looks just fine filled in with white oil pastel. All I care about is that when I point it down range and pull the trigger it goes bang and hits where I am aiming. The last thing I'm thinking about at the range is how nice the right side of my receiver looks.

My gosh, look at all that stuff! It's like a... a... a RUGER!!
But it's also an FAL so of course we love it. ![]() I take back my "real stuff" comment, it wasn't intended disparagingly. I was talking about the original roll-stamp GL IMBELs before they changed the lettering and language. While it looks like you got good results coloring your lettering, JoeBud, I don't highlight PAC's dot matrix importer markings or the serial number but only the Gear Logo and "IMBEL Fabrica De Itajuba - Brasil" (note the "s" instead of "z" in "Brasil"). Also the "Fz SA 7,62" on the left side. (Funny how they use a comma instead of a period.) On my DSAs, I paint in their logo and "LK BARRINGTON, IL" on the right and "SA 58 308 CAL" on the left, but (again) not the serial number. (Like to keep a low profile in some respects.) Incidentally I had a hard time filling in one of the DSA logos, they're not stamped very deeply on my receivers. --Radio
