Greek 308 from Century

About to trade a rifle for a few thousand rounds of Greek .308 from century... is this stuff accurate? Anybody had the typical problems with it?

greek is suposed to be one of the more accurate surplus ammo out there.the batch currently offered by century has been reported to be the cleaner(least tarnished)of thier .308 shooters dream special that thier running right now.i was thinking of trying some myself.i would check it out first to make sure that it's outward looks are ok(light tarnish)before trading.

Anyone have any headstamp dates on the tarnished Greek "Hirtenberger" from Century?

I'm wary of 60's headstamps on tarnished ammo ever since I had a case rupure in a 68 headstamp IMI from Southern Ammo.

hirtenberger is austrian.the greek i saw was headstamped hxp and was early 80's dated

Right, up until the latest revision of their online catalog, Century was calling all the ammo in the ".308 Shooters Dream" special "Hirtenberger" (irrespective of the country in question). Steve S. at Century mentioned something about this ammo being possibly produced by Hirtenberger for each of these countries, but he seemed unsure about that fact. I have yet to get a definite explanation of exactly what the full story with this ammo is.

I just want .308 thats cheap, reliable, and wont explode in my face.

I just received 1000 rounds of the Greek stuff today. Not too bad, about 30% shyknee, 60% lightly tarnished,the rest is a bit more tarnished but should be usable. Probably only one or two % will get chucked. Headstamps were pretty much all HXP-80 with NATO cross. Not bad for 109 smackers shipped.
