Removing a locking shoulder?
What's the best way to remove a locking shoulder from a receiver? I have a two ton bearing press to work with but what do I use to "push" it out?

I first get a piece of heavy card stock (like a business card) & use a sharp knife to cut a 1/2 in "X" in the center. I place the card stock on top of a large socket from my 1/2 in. drive socket set. I place the receiver over the card stock so the "X" is under the large end of the locking shoulder & the locking shoulder is centered over the wide mouth of the socket. I use a heavy punch & hammer the shoulder out into the socket. The card stock prevents marring the finish on the receiver.

I usually drill a hole in a piece of scrap hardwood or plywood(hardwood veneer stuff is the best) and lay whatever I am removing a pin from on that. Maybe a shop rag on the wood to protect the metal finish if I'm feeling picky. Try to match up a punch as close in size & shape as possible to the pin. For flat pins use a starter punch, it won't bend as easily.

The LS gets pressed out of the receiver and into the hole in the piece of wood.

Great Idea Gary
For those that want to HAMMER the Locking Shouder out should be aware that if it is then the Locking Shoulder SHOULD be thrown away because the LS will be prone to fracturing.A similar method to Garrys can be used to install the locking shoulder. ........ Please try not to Hammer them in and out, it could be detramental to your health in the long run. There are 3 critical points of safely in the FAL/L1A1 1. Heaspace 2. Locking Shoulder 3. Safety Sear (this is the BADDDDD part your not allowed, It is in-fact a critical safety device that is designed to stop the rifle firing until the breech block and carrier are fully forward and locked....... Dumb BATF Agent's have made all your rifles 'unsafe' ... I wonder if you can sue them????) I think it was 'lacking' an 'o'

Thanks for the advice, Kevin, but I would add a further word of caution and suggest that the hammer also be thrown away, as it too may be prone to fracturing.
