new park over old park?
well finally got my sandblaster going to day and found out I got to fine of glass bead. I asked for the equivelant of 220 and the sales guy gave me a bag of #8.
it works verry well on dirt, paint, rust, and old worn park, but barly puts a dent in the park "under the hand gaurds" (barrel gas tube gas block) and the new imbel reciever now that this tugh park is clean no rust no dirt can I park over it? (it will be mek'ed just before to remove oils) or will it be blocky or worse yet not take? should I go back and get a courser glass bead or AL-OX? any body try this before what happened? |

Make sure you have enough air pressure (between 60 and 70 lbs)going to your blast gun. Also Im not sure on the grade/grit of your glass beads. I use "blasting sand" which gives a little rougher finish. HTH

I had heard that if the pressure is to high U would break the beads so I started @ 40 psi and that was not verry effective at all so I bumped it to about 60 static, dont know what is is when the gun is running (cant see the gauge from the cabinet) prolly bumps down quite a bit, tomorro I will try a higher pressure
the other problem in my punny craftsman 5 HP compressor has a hard time keeping up I have to stop often to let it catch up |

I didnt answer your original question...sorry. If the old park is in good shape you could leave it. However my personal preference is to get it all down to the white then park it. That way it will all match.

I've tried it a few times. Never got good results. Best to blast off the old and start a-new.

Parkerizing will not "stick" to old park since it is an "etching" process...nothing to etch.

After re parking my HK clone I still did not like the look and gave it a coat of alumahide II bake on and compared to how it went over bare metal it came out much more scratch resistant and tough that finish is bulletproof now -no pun intended. Paint over park is a good way to go.
