My SAR is damaging primers with increasing regularity so I would like to know the max pin protrusion for 5.56.
Thanks, Jay |

Jay,
I have been looking through all my stuff ,the only thing that i came up with was this"Nat. Stock No. 1005-00-017-9547" part no."8448503" maybe some one knows or has this go/no go gage. These are army procurment numbers. Ill give you the protrusion length of mine".027-.028". I hope this has been helpful/ I have never had any problems with the firing pine pushing to far in to the primers with my 5.56. I re-load-thinking of the ammo-there are other posibilitys other than the firing pin how ever the firing pin is exactly the first thing to check into, there should not be any burs on the end , it should not be sharp eather, a nice round end like a ball is ideal. Good luck, Tony Lyons ps. know of a good or a perfect builders book for the FN-FAL L1A1? Exactly how are the primers being damaged any ways?????. Last edited by sniper_2200; July 18, 2002 at 03:02. |

Tony, thanks
There are other possibilities but after checking mine it protrudes about .038 and I think this may be the problem. I don't reload much and was shooting surplus SA M-193 which I have shot quite a bit of in my Aug and AR. Finally decided to take the Fal out and shoot it a bit when about halfway thru a mag My hammer quit resetting so I set it off to the side and finished the mag out of the AR with no hicups. Got home and began disassembly of the Fal and found small pieces of metal that looked like the size of the firing pin strike. Went out to the truck and fished some spent casings from the bed and out of the ten or so one had a pierced primer and the others were looking a bit deep. No high primers though all looked good just denting them too badly. Gunplumbers book on the how to build a fal is about the best from what i have heard. I think if you read most of the posts in this section of the board you will learn quite a bit from the many RKIs of the board Take care, Jay |
