Got my kit from TAPCO yesterday, read all the ways you can re-do furniture, then decided that for $25 I had nothing to lose. Since I don't have a Household 6, out came the baking pan, in went Formby's furniture finisher, handguards, MOPP gloves and a paintbrush. The handguards were the only part of the set that had anything besides oil on them. The stripper worked good but didn't take it all off. Sooooo, I shot them with EASY-OFF, then put them in the XM-21 Dishwasher. They came out great. The Buttstock and PG went in last night, after scrubbing the oil off with Simple Green. I am very happy with the results. The dishwasher removed 99% of the beaver marks on the set. I used a dremel to remove the metal inserts from the HGs. I have 2 questions for y'all 1. What is the liner(?) made of (between the metal and the wood on the HGs)? 2. I can get rivets to replace the originals, but where can I get the inserts (see pic circles)? As always, thanks for all the info that everyone on this board is so quick and complete with.

Re: TAPCO wood furn kit /progress and a ?
Andy,
I didn't take mine down that far so I can't be much help with the inserts. Just wanted to let you know that the handguard screw in the plastic furniture is different and will not work with the wooden set. I found this out when I went to put mine together and had to wait another few days to get one from Tapco. Maybe you already knew this, but if you didn't, you might want to go ahead and order one so you'll be all set when you're done refinishing. It'll give you an excuse to order some more stuff anyway. Nice looking furniture set you've got there. Good luck Paul

Thanks for the info. ARGGGGGGHHHHHH....lets see, since 3 July, I have placed 5 orders to TAPCO. In shipping and handling, that's a lot of handguard screws.....
I was wondering about that. I also found out that the screws I ordered for the trap-door Aussie buttplate are not the ones I need (must be a couple of different styles of buttplates.... I think with a little dremel magic, I can make it work.) This is what it all looks like so far...
