Went to FAL school .
A couple days ago, after a short correspondence with fellow forum member 'Ce'. I took the short drive to Albuquerque to go shooting. Ce offered to take me to a local range and show me around both inch and metric pattern riFALs.
Until two days ago, my only experience was with a Aussie SLR. I am coming from the M14 world, I grew up shooting CMP matches and I never paid much attention to FAL/SLR's until recently. Needless to say I got schooled and had a blast literally! Form respect to Ce I did not take pictures nor will I go into a in depth of all we shot. But I will say I got to shoot a couple of each pattern and I got to watch both a inch and metric guns broken down. I now feel more comfortable looking over future FALs and L1a1s giving me an idea of what I am looking at. Ce also gave me the motivation to jump in with both feet with the 50.00 kit I have. Its a bummer the builders heyday seems to be past but luckily I met a guy who offered to show me the ropes. We spent several hours shooting and ended the day ringing the gong at 200 yds with a .308 M1 Garand that I brought and a nice StG build. Before we parted ways Ce made me a deal for the the StG that we had shot. I was not planning on it but he me a deal I could not refuse and I got an excellent shooter to start my FAL section in the safe! I hope everybody had a Merry Christmas. My new StG sure puts a smile on my face! ![]() ![]() |

Sweet story. By most accounts here ce is good people. I've never personally dealt with him but I've seen some of his sale ads here and his deals are always in the favor of the buyer. I saw his offer to meet up with you and I'm glad you took him up on it. Turned out to be a very, very good day.
Thanks for sharing. BTW, there's hardly a firearm more pleasing to look at than a well built StG58. Congrats on the purchase.

Claude's da' man. You're a fortunate fellow. Few start down the Fal path as well prepared. Buy a lottery ticket.

Hey dudes, I've been lurking mostly, watching the new guys as the scene changed over the years.
This was cool, though, and Ed is definitely qualified as a shooter, right down to proper range etiquette and ability. I'm honored that he made the trek on just a hunch, so I had to perform and produce or risk my reputation and status by turning out to be a douche like Vince, who also made the scene with his Glock. Ed is a big dude, so naturally he selected the Rifel with the long African butt fitted, and never minced about the bipod making it so heavy. Wait til he gets a load of the Pig, the Izzy Heavy Barrel. I think it's time for his old lady to accept that there's going to be a hole in Daddy's safe, where all the money goes. |

CE is a great guy to deal with. Meet him at the Falfest and he was always fun to be around. I got pictures of him organizing the "flip-flop" shoot at one of the Falfest.

Well, Andy, I did say to him when we got to the range, You do have eye and ear protection, oui?
He whips out a pair of Raybans and slips on his Silencios, and says, Oui. I remember when you and Mrs. Andy made the scene at Zia while you were on walkabout, all the way form Buggeroo Creek, and that's like, 14,000 miles away. And James and Tex were formidable opponents in the 200 yard steel plate match at Falfest in Raton. But they got beat by The Bruno Brothers. So, to be fair, I now invite HBR to fly in from Arkansas, I'll pick you up at the airport, which is right next to Zia Rifel and Pistol Club, we'll shoot some gongs, and then you can catch the next plane back to teh Ozarks. |

Oh, yeah, huh, Team FN was way up front all the way home, my mistake.
Tex had that damn SCAR and couldn't miss, so James just ate a sandwich and cleaned the last shot. Not really, but I think there were 17 targets, so neither one needed a mag change. And I did get a shitton of brass, boy, I'l tell you what. Thanks for posting that Tex, I hadn't seen the whole match layed out like that, and thanks to Robin and Dirty Rice and Fast Professor and Stranger and Post Toastie and all you other steel clangers. |

I think the Brunop brothers was the next year and I don't think David was there but I remember them beating me and I don't remember who was with me one of those years.
I give most of the credit to David and his scoped Scar. That think is badass. James

Those other videos in that youtube stream really captured the essence of Falfest, if any of you guys want to know what it was all about.
James and Robin really shined in organizing the matches, and that was a lot of hard work officiating it all, so thanks again. |

![]() Back to important things lol I hope to get some trigger time with it tomorrow. My girlfriend wants to go shooting so it gives me an excuse to go all out. My local range used to have gongs at 100 and 200 yds. but last time I was there dip sh!ts shot it with steel core and I am not sure if they have been replaced yet...I will find out tomorrow. I also have a standing invitation to go shooting with Ce and have another day of school FAL lol. |

Uh, he's kinda new, Andy, he don't know about some of the poetic license and graphic imagery we use around here.
So here ya go, Ed, listen to this song see if it don't conjure up some images for ya. https://youtu.be/952h-AJ3Bcg |

Ed is a really nice guy. It was a pleasure to make his company.
Ugh! YOU FECKERS! Being nice to CE only makes him unbearable. But damn, after all these years ya'll should know what the consequences are for saying how great CE is. He was all giddy and skipping around like a school boy. He has been saying "thank you so much" to the Costco sample ladies and only taking one sample. He even gave me a dirty look when I double fisted a particularly munchie sample and scored two on one pass. I am starting to fear he may start tipping his hat to them. Then what, ya'll tell me?! As for the Ray Bans, he hinted that maybe, just maybe,I think about returning them to Andy. For the record, I stole them fair and square. Seriously, I am really worried, what if Ce isn't grumpy? What would happen if he stops telling us how we all "ruined his life?" This ain't good. Vince |

I met up with Ce yesderday. I was free and he was free so I made the drive and started the day early. I brought my Belgian 50.00 kit for Ce to check out, he lined me out and helped me brake down the lower 100% so I was able to wipe off all the pb blaster off I used to break down the cosmoline. It really made it nice to have experienced first hand knowledge guiding me. Ce also offered to grind off the old FN receiver stub. ![]() After we finished with the 50.00 kit we goofed off with my StG for a little bit and the loaded up Ce's Land Rover and headed to the range for some trigger time. After some fine tuning I was hitting the 200yd gong on almost every shot with the StG on a bipod laying prone on a mat and cycled all the mags in my kit. ![]() Ce shooting the StG. ![]() Then he brought out some more toys to make me jealous. ![]() ![]() ![]() This was a nice rifle. I want a Izzy HB! Then he brought out a South African R1 ![]() Then I brought out one of my 14s. ![]() A all Winchester build I picked up years ago. We rang the 200yd gong with every rifle. It was a really nice day. The high in Albuquerque was a balmy 60 degrees on a clear sunny day. It was a nice second day of FAL school! ![]() ![]() |
