Belgian 50.61

[IMG]20171209_140021 by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/155185241@N05/]

I recently walked into a local gun shop and found this hanging on the wall. Hadn't seen one in 30+ years. Tough to contain the excitement, to say the least.
I'm curious about how many of these 50.61's were imported in the U.S. This seems to be the right community to ask this question. I don't personally know anyone who knows what a cool find this is. Go figure. Thanks for any info.

Fal guy para

Did u buy it?? If yes how much ? They're usually crazy expensive!! I don't know how many were imported but not that many!! A friend had one for sale in CAlif recently new unfired but wanted 55-6500 for it I'd personally rather convert an Sar 48 into a para for that kind of money but truly regret selling all my Belgium made paras back in the day

I donít know the hard numbers but considering the short/combo flshider it is likely a Gun South, Trussville gun. Canít see from the pic, but looks to be in good shape. FAL market is all over the place these days price-wise. Iíd put a like-new 50.61 at $3000-3500 in this market.

The gun is marked "Fabrique Nationale Herstal", "Made in Belgium", and "Steyr, Secaucus NJ". No Gun South stamping. The gun is like new. One superficial scratch on the right side of the barrel about 2in. long, and that's it. No brass "kiss" on the receiver or dust cover. Before I picked it up, I thought it was a new gun. This one obviously is a Pre 89' ban import. He said the gentleman that brought it in stated he hadn't fired it. Looking it over, it's obvious (small amt. of unburnt powder in the chamber area) that it was shot, but very little.
Now for the best part. They were asking $2,449 for the rifle, a NOS sling, 6 magazines, and 480rds out of what was a 500rd crate of Venezuelan surplus ball ammo. I talked them down $200, and got the whole thing for $2,249. They even threw in a couple of range passes! Felt like I was dreaming, and someone was about to wake me up.
The only glitch has been figuring out an import timeframe, and approximate number of this type to be imported.

Call the cops. You stole it Man some guys have all the luck like Rod Stewart says. I'd be all over it too. Shit you can't hardly build a SAR 48 for that amount

Yes, you stole that gun. Iíd venture to guess that the single-import stamp (Steyr) is indicative of late-1970s, very early 80s. Member AGG will likely be along soon to shed some light on numbers but I canít imagine more than a few thousand. Nice score

Agreed on both--- unlike the 50.63 that has documented import numbers and specialized serial numbers, the 50.61 serial numbers are mixed in with the 50.00/50.41/50.42!!!
PM to you!!!
