I've used a Commonwealth release for the same reason, but these look interesting for half the price and perhaps less effort.

Looking forward to any response with actual experience on this!

And, this DSA part has a pad on the right side so you can do a trigger finger release in addition to a thumb release of the left side.

Seems like a fairly nifty part if they fit/function properly.

I have one and am still getting used to it, the angle of the left side button is different.

As far as the angle goes I think it is meant to be operated by the index finger of your shooting hand, whether it be right or left.
It is weird if you use your left thumb(as a righty) and vice versa.

Thanks for posting the pic - nice looking rifle.

No problems with the install on the mag release - fits OK? Clears the bolt hold open OK?

When I mentioned using the thumb - it wasn't while the hand is still on the pistol grip, it meant (for a right-handed shooter) grasping the magazine with the left hand and using the left thumb to depress the catch. Since this mag release has pads on both sides, it gives both right- and left-handed shooters the option of using the trigger finger to depress the catch OR using the off-hand to remove the mag by depressing the catch with the thumb. This DSA design is an improvement over the Commonwealth design mentioned by Invictus77 as that design only has one pad on the left.

I'm finding that to be true.

Goose i had a friend help me replace the old mag release and it went together with no problems and everything works as it should.

Well, I like it, but I had to do a LOT of fitting, on a DSA rifle no less. I know that some people haven't had an issue so I guess it's hit or miss, go figure from DSA!

Are you looking for the "ambi" or the "extended" benefit?

Extended:
A member here (Lear70) makes an extended metric release that gets great reviews. With full transparency I will say that I tried one in my "race gun" Imbel/Imbel build and it did not hold the mag up correctly. That is the only issue I have ever heard of with his product and he sent me a full refund with no drama. Good product and a good dude. The stars just did not align correctly on mine.

Ambi (or left side preference):
I personally like the Commonwealth release for two-gun or tactical type rifle matches as a right handed shooter. Holding the riFAL by the PG, reach up and grab the mag with the left hand while hitting the release with your thumb. Insert new mag and move on. The riFAL remains on your shoulder and your right hand never moves off the PG. Maybe not for everyone, but seems to make sense to me. Please note I have never been the winner of any match I ever shot, but dayum I have a lot of fun doing it. YMMV.

Yes! Meaning, essentially both. Extended is good and would be much better than the stock catch on my SAR-48. Ambi is even better as it give the option of a trigger finger release. So, I will probably end up going with the DSA part.

This is basically for bench/range shooting - just something to make mag removal easier. Although I have been a member of USPSA for 26 years, my run-and-gun days are mostly behind me so I'm not concerned about 2- or 3-gun matches...

I have one on my tacticool SA58. It replaced a SloCat extended/ checkered release, and I love it for “AR style” reloads. Using the index finger of your primary hand is the key to it. In that respect it works very well. Using your left thumb to rock a mag out is awkward, the placement of the left side lever is in a bad spot for the traditional mag change method.

It is a cast part, and looks “ok”, but fits and functions very well.

For non 2/ 3 gun bench style shooting I’d almost prefer a SloCat style extended lever......if you can find one.

Thanks for the additional info and for posting the pics. Good to hear the DSA part installed OK.

I had reviewed the long thread on SloCat's extended/checkered catch and it looked good...but also unavailable for the past couple years. AND, this isn't important enough to me to pay a premium price if one of those turned up.

Thanks again.

Just got mine this afternoon, installed in minutes. Fit and function are perfect, it's a nice bit of kit.
