CONFESSION . . . what was your impulse buy past week?

Okay, so I made an impulse buy. Five each Anderson AR-15 lowers from Primary Arms for $29.99 each. Why? Who knows . . .

Bought a Lansky sharpening kit with the diamond stones instead of just the regular stones. Swore I would never try any of these knife sharpening "hacks", and I sharpen knives pretty good with a v sharpener and finish up with water stones, but I'm tired of busting my ass for 1-2 hours to get a blade where I want it.

How well do these work? I don't sharpen knives very often. Not too good at it either. I have taught the cub scouts how to sharpen knives . . . fastest way to make a sharp knife dull. Just a cheap two-sided stone from Harbor Freight, some oil, and some old knives that they can't really hurt.

Another Model 15 Smith followed me home last week, from a quick drop in at a tiny mom and pop gun shop as an afterthought.
There is sat, and now its here at home.
250.00 out the door!

How many of those little mouse tampons come in a five dollar box? I may have been ripped,......Keep Shooting had them at .08 apiece and I bought a hundred of them.

My biggest impulse buy was a set of three PSA kits for $359 each with free shipping. Also got a knife or two, some LED porch lights and a Bren kit with a nice center hunk of demil receiver from BRP. It was an eclectic week of Black Friday shopping.

Don't ask me why but I bought two 50 round boxes of 9mm Federal 115 grain JHP. This is the rimmed 9mm round for the long discontinued Charter Arms Pitbull revolver.

Actually I do know why. I have an old three screw Ruger Blackhawk .357/9mm convertible in the safe. The rimmed 9mm Federal chambers just fine in the 9mm cylinder. So someday I will shoot off a box of the rounds and then reload them using RCBS 9mm Luger dies and a .38 Special shell holder.

BTW I only paid $20 OTD for these 100 rounds. The dealer wanted to get them off his inventory. So what is the going rate for these anyway?

And so it goes.

German milsurp gun cleaning wicks. Basically cotton thread bore swabs that attached to the chain type pull thrus in their field cleaning kits. The number of threads used depends on the caliber of the weapon.

The German military has been using these since the 1930's in their RG 34 and later G 3 kits.

A box contains 125 packs of 8 wicks (tampons ) containing 16 threads each. This was a Black Friday deal with a regular price of $14.99.

I have a half dozen or so G 3 cleaning kits that I bought for a dollar or two just for the Pull-thru Chain. A couple kits had the wicks with them, but most did not. I don't really know how well these things do foe cleaning, but intend to find out.

A CZ75B SA a couple of weeks ago.

This week it was a High Standard K1200 riot shotgun. Went in thinking about a coach gun just for shits and grins but got waylaid. I have a weakness for those slick old H-Ss.

Almost forgot one; U.S. NAVY, A complete history by the Naval Historical Foundation and written by M. Hill Goodspeed.

Real fancy 15 pound book and brand new at $3.97 in a local Bull Moose store.
Haven't read it yet, anxious to see if I am mentioned.

Yup, really went all out and spread some money around on Black Friday, probably went thru $12 to $15 dollars or so.

No sign of a pre lock S&W 686 abouts however.

Waiting to see if the deal goes through; one Ohio Ordnance receiver 1918A3 complete with bipod, 7 magazines, and a gunner's belt dated 9-18. Don't need it, too heavy to carry, but makes people look when you walk by toting that thing.

Well, what I will admit to is a Leupold Rimfire scope to plop down on a spare 10/22 for an Appleseed loaner rifle. Also a Freeland spotting scope stand off fleabay, finally won one after several years of increasing bidding.

They are great for blades under about 5" or so. Sharpened up a completely shot old Gerber EZ Out in about 15 minutes. The key is to use your thumb underneath the guide rod to take up the small amount of vertical slop for consistency, and make sure you profile an unknown edge to the exact angle you are trying to achieve with the coarse stones first otherwise the finer stones wont do jack. A strop and some rouge is helpful followup if you want hair shaving sharp, but a good paper slicing edge can be achieved with just careful unidirectional strokes of the fine stone.

"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Does "accidental" count?

Had to admit to my wife I am the most brilliant idiot on the planet.

Wife told me I needed to lift my truck while we were in the middle of Harvey. She was serious. Her dad and her brother's family and my brother's family were all on islands surrounded by flooding, and she felt it might fall to us to go get them. I didn't put up much of a fight when the wife says to lift the truck.

Soooooo.... bought the Rancho radius arm kit for the F250. Got it all installed. Make an appointment to go get the tires I found a hell of a deal on installed. Had bought a set of wheels and tires for the truck right after buying it. Truck came factory with 18" wheels. Thought the set I bought was too. Bought a set of 37s for 18" wheels (which is a PITA to find, btw). Found out at the tire place I had 17" wheels.

Now I'm shopping for wheels. Guess the great deal I got on the tires will balance out like I got wheels for free... but still. BRILLIANT IDIOT I am.

Thankfully in my case accidental didn't count.

I tried to buy a couple of Franklin Armory Binary Triggers off of GB. Wholesale Hunter had a hundred of them and I took two and hit Buy Now. GB wouldn't let me buy them,....they claimed the auction had already ended? Really? It showed 28 days to go when I started.

Anyway, so I go back and find the relisted auction, select two sets and Buy Now again. That one went through so I checked out through the system and paid the $773 or whatever the total was. Then I was forwarded to my Buying page where I saw that the original sale for two sets DID go through,........not the worst thing in the world,...........I'll just have four instead of two, right?

Wrong.

I go through the system to pay for the extra two triggers that supposedly didn't sale and it rings up as 100 sets,........$38,600 total. My page says I bought two triggers twice but nothing I can do at checkout to undo the hundred triggers there so I call Wholesale Hunter. That went less than well.

I get 'Mike' on the phone and I explain the whole situation to him. He instantly comes to the conclusion that I must have entered quantity 100 myself and that it was my fault,......there's no way the system could have been in error. I agreed with him that 'it can't happen' but again walked him through my Purchases page where it shows two purchases of two triggers(didn't even bother to tell him about the inadvertent second purchase). No real effect,......he still maintained that it was not possible to be 'awarded' 100 triggers without 'selecting' 100 triggers so I had to go at the problem from a different angle. I had to have him pull up my two invoices that had been emailed from Wholesale Hunter and when both of those showed 'quantity 2' and the item numbers were matched to the auctions he relented and sent it back to someone at the GB desk. I was on hold for only a minute or two and then he came back on and I got to hear most of the conversation shouted across the office. GB dude was on the phone with GB, the GB system had fugged up and Wholesale Hunter was reimbursed $5000 in fees and the one sale was instantly cancelled.

So in this case 'accidental' didn't count.

An ugly gold 04 Suburban 4x4 with a blown up transmission.
No clue why. Just did.
Paid $800 bucks, and it has 127K on it.

I'll build the trans, put a case saver in the transfer case, spice up the 5.3, change the fluids in the diffs, lift it a couple inches, give it a shot of Rhino Liner, and ~ POOF ~ instant redneck mobile.

Then I'll sell it to Juanni for 30K

That just what I figured too. Unfortunately, my then wife "moved" the Breechblock to a place unknown by me to this day.

Me... I'm being a good boy. Saving my bucks for a newer motorhome. CV and I like the '76 Dodge dinosaur so well that we really want to upgrade to a much newer one. So much better than a tent.
