Found a nice one.

I like getting log sections because you never know what you will get.

And I had plenty of scrap to keep me warm.

The bottom stock came from these boards... and will go perfect with my second BGS.

Bust up some old pallets for firewood,.....you've still got some nice grip and knife scale material in your scrap pile. Maybe not FAL grips but things like 1911 and S&W M39 don't take much.

Cleaving logs is good fun. Never know what you're going to find. I had a buddy with a mill out in Marysville, CA I used to visit and we'd spend the weekend slicing off slabs,..... I'd rather do that than just about anything else I can think of.

You canít save it all.
I got plenty of wood for Carry handles and if it wasnít worth making a pistol grip out of it, it went in there. I also had a lot of waste because the boards were 3 inches thick and all I really need is 1 3/4 for a stock... it also came in handy for getting a better cut of wood. The wood was cheaper by volume, but ultimately I spent more time getting my pieces cut to size.... my bandsaw worked hard last week. There are also quite a few cracked pieces I had to toss.

On a plus side, it sure does keep the shop warm.

Here's a few more from those boards... the grain is a bit crazy. I also got some nice straight grain ones also out of it.
Its really cool starting with the block and seeing how the grain ends up when your done. Its generally predictable, but with these you just never know until your about done.

They are all up for sale. Iíve been playing email tag with another member who gets first choice.
I make them to this point so I can still make a type A or type B stock in any configuration.

Dean... seriously think about Pistol grips for Smiths or 1911s or Hi-Powers or whatever with those smaller bits. Hurts my heart to see those pieces threatened with fire.

What you see is English walnut. The appearance can change greatly depending on what part of the tree itís cut from..... Even from tree to tree.

You mentioned previously that you intended to make StG58 straight come pattern stocks. Is that still in the works or is it a dead issue?

Itís not a dead issue. I actually made one based off the STG 58 plastic stock, with no hump and a straight comb. I made it a little too thin on the sides by the recoil tube. It really looked nice. But then I dropped it, and I t split down the sides at the recoil tube back about 3 inches.
After that I kind a got sidetracked with other projects...and a divorce.

I still have quite a few stock blocks from these slabs. Iíll be sure to make a couple....

The bottom two are from a different tree. I have a few that look like the lower left one and also have some C stocks....but originals are readily available.

What do you mean by "originals are readily available"?

I'm interested in one like the lower left for an argy clone. Probably C cut but non-rotating swivel and not trap cut.

I meant Belgian C stocks... your Argentine one, no. I checked my blocks I already cut and drilled... I can’t get a Argentinian stock out of them, at least the picture of one I was looking at. I believe I have the wrist cut too thin already for one. It will have to be next time I cut some up.

Fly,
Where do I go to look at what you have up for sale. I was thinking of a wood stock and forend for my type 3 Belgian 50.00.

Currently, the only way to find out what I have in my hoard is to contact me via email at deanrd@live.com . I ask what youíre looking for as far as wood characteristics and stock cut types. After that Iíll send pictures back with a selection to choose from. I like to get people what they want and that seems to work out the best.

Prices do vary slightly depending on the cut of wood.
I also take trades on FAL stuff.
