Ammo question...
Is the 8mm Yugo ammo that AIM is selling corrosive? It looks so much better than the Turk 8mm that I know is corrosive.

It's been said many times, many ways (sing to the music)...if it is surplus don't trust them, no matter what they claim. I don't know if THIS ammo is NC or not, I just figure it will rust your bore!
Don't take chances! You WILL learn from your mistakes!

Batman,
the ONLY surplus 8mm ammo i know of is the 72-74' port. stuff samco and sarco are selling. its beeeeautiful 196gr ammo but it is 2-3 times more expensive than the yugo-romanian types. that said at $160ish/800 its still cheap enough to buy for the persians! aj |

Thanks all, I think I will call Samco and get some port. for my persian. My turk is junk so it will get the corrosive stuff and a bottle of Windex w/ amonia.

Bought about 500 rds of that with a couple of M48A Yugos about six months ago. Cleaned up one Yugo really nice and shot it one day, cleaned it about two months later. I checked inside the barrel oh, maybe once a week or so, finally pushed a patch through with some Hoppes #9 then some Sweet's 7.62 and there wasn't a spot of iron rust on the patches (LOTS of copper corrosion) and the barrel still looks pristine. YMMV

I just got some Yugo 8mm Mauser (1977 headstamp) and wondered the same thing. But if it was non-corrosive, they wouldn't be selling it for $70-$80 per 1000.

Can somebody please post the URL for Sarco?
I would like to compare their price on 8mm with Interordnance. http://www.interordnance.com/Merchan...t_Code=8mmammoSpecial!!! Look what we have found for you! This is the best 8mm (7.92x57) ammunition we have seen on the surplus market. The ammunition was made on German machinery and has a steel case with a FMJ bullet. It is berdan primed, corrosive and 100% sure firing! 380 rounds are in one tin can and 2 cans are in 1 wooden crate (760rds.) The ammo was manufactured between 1972 and 1974! You will get 760 rds for only 39.95. This ammo works in bolt actions and machhine guns. 100% sure firing.

I don't know the vintage of what AIM is selling, but I do have three cases of Yugo from Sarco I bought about 3 years ago. It is 1950's vintage in the blue/grey wood crates. Most definitely corrosive. That being said, I have been shooting corrosive through all of my 8mm guns for some years now. Sudsy ammonia cut 3 to 1 with hot water works wonders. I run a wet patch through the bore, wipe down any surfaces that may have powder residue, such as bolt faces, pistons, etc and follow with a conventional solvent cleaning. Works like a charm.

being that these are designed for battle i would say the awnser is no! however i do clean all of my milsurps at the range after a day of corrosive shooting-its VERY easy to run a couple of windexed patces down the bore-dont forget the bolt and area aound the muzz. they will rust too.
