FN CAL around the world

Gents,

Please post any pictures / info you have of FN CALs in action around the world !

Burma - KNLA

Notice the STANAG 30 rounders used in place of the proprietary CAL magazines.

Colombia - ELN

Probably a rifle smuggled from Venezuela.

Gaza strip

Unknown (to me) location

Appears to be in South America, possibly Colombia.

Sadly, Fabrique Nationale has unwittingly armed almost as many communist dirt bags around the world as Kalashnikov has.

Anybody notice the Gaza photo

Too much trigger finger discipline for a terrorist organization.
Also, the two with baseball caps don't look right either. Especially the tall one. I would say Hamas is hiring mercenaries for training their local militias

It would be interesting to know where they come from.

Even the bad guys understand trigger discipline now. I've noticed that in pictures taken around the world.

The men pictured are supposedly members of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. I do not have additional information on this left-wing group.

Notice that the barrel of the Gaza CAL seems (to my eye) to be ribbed. It also sports an unusual flash hider. The bolt carrier appears to have been left in the white.

Does anyone has a picture of a CAL delivered to Lebanon?

French T&E CAL

According to famous french author and expert Jean Huon, the CAL was first tested by French officials in 1967. Starting from 1968, the French government expressed interest in having the rifle grenade launching capability added to the CAL. Final trials took place in 1973 and 1974.

Overall 23 examples were modified with 'ribbed' barrels similar to that of the MAS 49-56 for grenade launching purposes.

I've seen pictures of 2 examples, the one above and another one, identical besides a regular CAL pistol grip. Both had their bolt carriers 'in the white'.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but didn't the CALs already have the ability to fire rifle grenades (at least NATO standard ones)? Or what that only when fitted with a FAL or FNC type muzzle device?

Anyone have a rough estimate of about how many CALs FN mfg’d in the late-60s/early 70s?

Numbers I've seen range from 12K-30K. Of course only about 20-25 made it into the US.

Interesting. Even 12k is way more than I thought

BTW, I do think I have a photo of a CAL with a folding stock with an identical grenade launcher on it. It's in the book Military Small Arms of the 20th Century by the late Ian Hogg and the late Col. John Weeks.
