5 Round Mag

Anybody ever use the 5 round DSA mag, for the metric FAL?
Don't ask why I might want a few.

I honestly do NOT have a clue as to the origin of mine but I have a few 5 rounders and they have worked great!

I am not even sure if ANYONE other than DSA ever made them????

I just got one in from Midway, the feed lips is slightly bent, but appears to be a good mag.

I have two because we are limited to 5 rds when hunting with a semi. They have worked fine in my STG.

No experience with them but at the local flea market last week there was a guy with one lonely 20rd mag he couldn't sell because it was beat to shit at the bottom. If he's still got it next weekend I might have to have it and attempt to make my own. Anybody who has one want to measure the height for me and count how many coils there are on the spring ?

If you need it for hunting purposes, you may be able to just use an internal block (such as a block of wood) to limit the magazine's capacity to five rounds. If a "permanent" alteration is required, you may be able to simply use a pop-rivet or two, again to limit the downward travel of the magazine follower to only allow five rounds to be loaded.

I ordered some and they honored the order.

I have 5 round ak, HK, AR mags and will have the fal soon.

I will compare the spring length and stack height on all to come up with a common figure that may work to create a 7 rounder.

Steel FAL mags can be shortened and mig welded, as long as a brass door hinge is used as backer inside the mag, as a backup to the welder.
That way the weld does not burn the edges being welded, as a non ferrous plate soaks up the heat, and leave the weld flat on the inside.

Fal Mags

Five round Fal mags are made by DSA, No major company that I can remember ever made a Five round Fal mag. Only the Belgiums made 10 round Fal mags that were designed for Parades and guard duty.

The 5 rounders will work fine in an FAL but are way too short to use in a RRA LAR-8.

To eject them out of an LAR-8 you would have to knock the rear pin out, open up the rifle and push it out from the top.
There is nothing extending below the bottom of the mag well when latched in to place.

The 10 round magazines work fine in the LAR-8.
I seem to remember them being marketed by DSA as Belgian "Parade" magazines ?

I've a 5 round magazine here that I bought second hand a while back.

It's been very well made from a Steyr 20 rounder, it's probably one sold by DSA. It's neatly done and they probably used a jig to do the cuts and then folded the tabs like the original to hold the floor plate.

The back of the mag has been cut half way down the top hole at the rear or 2 5/8" down from the top of the body. The bottom is cut to the same angle as an original mag.

The spring is W shaped (or M shaped) depending on which way you look at it, so you have the part that clips to the bottom of the follower and three more returns.

Mine functions well, but I mainly use 20 rounders for kneeling and standing and converted 30 round 7.62mm Bren mag for mag resting in Civilian Service Rifle competitions.

Good luck with your stupid new laws. We've managed to keep shooting over here despite no semi auto centrefire rifles at all but I hope you never get that level of stupidity.

Follow up to my post; my DSA 5rd mag functions like crap. I must have gotten a bad one. Feed lips bent, springs must be weak or poorly aligned because it does not position the rounds consistently for loading also mag got jammed in to mag well once and there is not enough sticking out to grab firmly, had to pry it out. Plan to use this mag. for hunting but must be worked on first.
