Good holographic sight on the cheap
Any good quick aquisition optics for a good price that can withstand 7.62 Nato recoil? Hate to spend $600 + for a sight. Seems like there must be something out there that is a good deal.

I always recommend you save up and buy the quality optic. Especially with a warranty. You'll end up with a junk drawer full of cheap knock-offs that never worked right or not for long and then you'll break down and buy the one you wanted from the start and be happy. Be happy from the start. Pay once, cry once.

Probably lots of stuff can handle the 7.62 NATO on a bolt gun. I've had to send back an ACOG that was on the FAL for a while. It has a reputation for being hard on optics.
I'm for the buy once, cry once idea. And the 'Buy Once' choice should have a great warranty and a good reputation for customer service. Peace.

My first choice is a Primary Arms M4 scope that takes AA batteries. Then it would be a toss up between Lucid and Bushnell holo sights.

I agree that spending the necessary cash to get good optics is always the right choice. But, Aimpoint's stuff is over priced in my opinion. Just because you spend a lot of money on something does not mean you got the best product or the best deal. Aimpoint's stuff is very good quality but I imagine there are some other options less expensive that are also very good. There usually is a good alternative to the highest priced equipment. You could look at Dr. Optic. I'm not sure what is going on with them these days but they make some really good quality products out of Germany. I'm not sure if they have red dots or holo sights or both. SWFA recently was blowing all their Dr. Optic stuff out at around $200 - $250. I think they just weren't selling enough of them or something.

How about $365? Uses cheap batteries, but not night vision compatable if that matters.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER and: $336, if you don't mind "Used - like new" http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...condition=used

The Vortex Strikefire seams to be a good mid priced sight. Used it on my FAL for a while, now it is on my Deer Rifle. It does us a CR2 battery that can be hard to find.

I really like the EoTech sites, but they can be pricey. A few years ago, I bought a Bushnell for about $100 less than the EoTech, and it appears to be identical. I read somewhere that EoTech makes them for Bushnell.
I once bought a cheap knock off Aim Point. Want it? It's gathering dust in my basement. Total POS. |

EOTECH 512 for the best value:utility ratio.
FAL won't hurt it.

Yep, I've got a 512 on one of my FALs. I've got the smaller Bushnell version on a smg and it has worked 100%. The only thing I don't like about them is the "n" batteries don't last all that long. There are versions that accept AA batteries. IMO, it's not a good idea to store an optic with batteries in it. I only install mine before I go shooting.

My 512's uses AA's.
I leave batteries in them all the time. Never picked one up to find the batteries dead. There were a few defective ones that drained batteries when not in use. If you have one of the defectives, it will make itself known riki-tik.

I've got some pretty good experience with a Tasco PDTS 132.
There is one on my Benelli M3 and another on my FAL. So far they've both been holding up very well. The one on the FAL sits in an ARMS mount 22M68. No $$$ wasted there. ![]() Pete |

Aimpoint or Eotech you can not go wrong. You get what you pay for in the long run.

I own a 512. It tolerates the recoil of the FAL well. (Apparently, better than my TA31F ACOG, which is on its way back to the factory as I type this.) However I have had a battery box issue and 2 delamination issues that have made me send it back to the factory. L3's customer service kicks ass though and have fixed all issues, promptly, outside of warranty - all free of charge |

I think the OP asked about a CHEAP red dot.
If he's looking for cheap, I'd say the chances that he is going to marry it to a night-vision system are about as remote as me making an 800-yard shot with the BUIS and 55-grain FMJ on my zombie rifle.
