Another lovely Type 2. Would love to get the SN if you don't mind sharing. I suspect it may have 2 sets of numbers; one that is 7 digits which begins with a 250 prefix and another that is 5 digits which begins with 146 or 147.

Ok I have an FAL on one side it is stamped 308 match with a serial number. On the other side it says Browning Arms Compagny Arnold Missouri and Montreal P Q. Above that it says Steyr Secaucus N J. I found an "L" stamped where the serial number is found on the "G" series.

Thanks for sharing the SN information. I have one that is only 10 numbers apart from yours with SN: 250126 / 14671.
The Type 2 FAL's are beautiful rifles. Cheers -KIT- |

I've never seen a Type 2 with the Secaucus NJ address. KIT can you shed some light here? I'm guessing it would be immediately after Steyr moved from Grand Rapids circa 1972-73?

Good point. Typically the early examples were marked 'Grand Rapids'. I'll check the markings on SN: 250126 / 14671 when I get home this week and advise. Cheers Mark |

Just get a photo hosting account like Photobucket. It's free, and then you can post the pics here.

I also have a FN FAL with the misspelling. Will try to sneak by the saber tooth cat, the Dire wolf and cave bear and post the serial number this evening.
Right side below ejection port: STEYR SECAUCUS N.J. above BROWNING ARMS COMPAGNY / ARNOLD, MISSOURI AND MONTREAL P.Q on magazine well. Same side 2500299. What is this number? Left side 14844. What is this number? Not three wives, just a very effective theft preventon system.

OK, I checked the markings on my Type 2 SN: 250126 / 14671 and did not find any other importer related markings on it other than the "Browning Arms Compagny-Arnold Missouri and Montreal P Q." on the magwell. No mention of Steyr.
I also checked Type 2 SN: 2500133 / 14678 which is the next closest SN that I have and in addition to the "Browning Arms Compagny" markings on the magwell it is marked (stamped) ''EJK Devco'' on the barrel between the front sight and flash-hider. Steyr's American offices were located in Grand Rapids,MI before they relocated to Secaucus, NJ so it would be logical to assume that all of the earliest Type 2 receivered examples would be marked as such. That said as we so often note about the FAL "nothing is certain & never say never". Given what we have seen with respect to serial numbering and North American FN FAL importers not all rifles were imported with sequential serial numbers and it was not uncommon to utilze an earlier serial number on a rifle imported at a later date. Cheers -KIT- |
